About the company

Our client is a robotics company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Design and build mechanical hardware for automated systems, taking parts from first concept through prototyping, testing and production. The work combines hands-on bench testing with design and includes integrating finished hardware into working facilities.

What you'll do

- Design gripping tools, then complete machine systems and their integration with customer equipment.

- Split working time roughly evenly between design and hands-on prototyping and testing.

- Build your own test rigs and carry out the testing yourself.

- Move parts from small prototype runs to larger production with outside suppliers.

- Install and deploy hardware in live production environments.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Proficiency in one or more mechanical CAD tools, with a solid grasp of tolerancing, material selection and manufacturing methods.

- Real-world work with mechanical machines such as robotic arms, drones or self-driving vehicles.

- A practical understanding of mechanical fundamentals such as loads, stiffness, friction and material behavior, applied to design tradeoffs.

- A history of seeing mechanical products move from early sketches all the way to volume build or field rollout.

- Startup experience or substantial hands-on side projects building hardware.

- Experience building and modifying prototypes.

- One or more years of relevant experience.

Bonus points

- Familiarity with GD&T fundamentals.

- Defense-technology experience.

That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
