Why Numeric

Every business relies on accounting. Yet most software in the space was built in the early 2000s — clunky, slow, and far behind the curve on AI. Today, accountants are facing a growing, unsolved data problem as a consequence of complexity, data, and system fragmentation — and they lack the tools to solve it. The problems are real, hard, and increasingly urgent. But they're solvable.

Enter Numeric — the modern financial data platform for accounting and finance. Weaving together data, workflows, and AI-first solutions, we're empowering accounting teams to achieve verifiable, detailed financial data faster and make business decisions with greater confidence.

We have strong product market fit and a growing base of customers who love our product — including Anthropic, Plaid, Brex, Betterment, and many more. We're backed by top-tier investors including Menlo Ventures, IVP, Founders Fund, and 8VC, along with founders and executives from Ramp, Segment, and other category-defining companies.

From 2021 to 2025, we built our core close product module by module into the platform modern accounting teams rely on. In September 2026, we launched our next chapter: a financial data platform that fundamentally challenges the way accounting and finance have been done for centuries. We're scaling fast, and the SEs we hire now will be foundational to Numeric's growth trajectory.

About This Role

As an Associate Sales Engineer, you'll be a technical partner to our sales team, helping finance leaders understand how Numeric solves their most complex accounting challenges. The product is moving fast, customers are getting more sophisticated, and the SE role is at the center of every major win. We're looking for an Associate SE who brings real accounting and finance depth, wants to learn the craft of technical selling alongside our senior SEs, and is hungry to grow into owning the room with a CFO. This role comes with a clear path to Senior Sales Engineer.

What You'll Do
  • Support and increasingly lead demos, discovery sessions, and proof-of-concept (POC) engagements across mid-market and enterprise accounts

  • Partner closely with Account Executives and senior SEs to develop technical win strategies and move deals forward

  • Build credibility with finance stakeholders, including Controllers and VPs of Finance, by bringing real domain expertise to every conversation

  • Ramp quickly through structured enablement, shadowing, and live deal reps alongside senior SEs

  • Gather and synthesize customer feedback to inform product roadmap priorities, partnering with PMM and product

  • Help build and maintain demo environments, technical collateral, and enablement materials for the broader team

  • Use AI tools (Claude, MCP, and whatever comes next) to accelerate demo prep, research, and your own ramp

About You
  • 5-7+ years of total experience in the finance/accounting world, ideally a mix of in-house operations and customer-facing roles

  • You may have been an SE before, and/or have a real aptitude for and interest in becoming one

  • Strong accounting and finance domain knowledge, with the ability to speak credibly with Controllers and finance teams

  • Comfortable presenting to customers, and eager to sharpen your demo, discovery, and POC skills

  • Based in SF or NYC

Nice To Haves
  • Experience at a high-growth startup

  • CPA or formal accounting background

  • Familiarity with accounting close management or financial reporting workflows

How We Work

This role is in person in New York or San Francisco (in office by default but with flexibility to manage your schedule as you see fit).

We strongly believe we will only be successful if everyone on the team is anchored in our following set of core principles:

  • Brick by Brick: To win, our team needs to show up and execute in each domain every day.

  • Love the Game: We focus on the craft and a deep sense of giving a f*ck. We're building a company full of people who are equally engaged and motivated.

  • SALY: We refuse to accept "Same As Last Year." For too long, accounting and finance systems have reflected outdated processes instead of reimagining what's possible. We're driven by a first-principles approach to building better solutions.

  • Own the Outcome: We own our results. We typically hire builders and give them large mandates with high-trust. Engineers are responsible not just for code, but for ensuring the product is solving the end problems of the users.

  • Earn the right: We're impatient to deliver results. We relentlessly iterate, measure, and improve. Every day is an opportunity to beat our prior best, raising the bar for the value we deliver to customers. E Pluribus Unum-eric.

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
