Boeing Global Services (BGS) - Commercial Engineering Safety Team is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our team in Long Beach, CA.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Senior (Level 4 or Level 5) System Safety Engineers.
The System Safety Engineer's responsibilities will include conducting thorough safety analyses at the airplane and system level across various engineering disciplines. This role entails leading the intricate integration of airplane systems, human factors, and safety assessments, all while considering the operational context of the aircraft. Attention to detail and a keen engineering mindset are essential as our safety deliverables play a critical role in ensuring compliance.
Our team fosters strong partnerships with customers and program leaders across diverse engineering disciplines. We excel in systems-oriented thinking, effective communication, and possess a deep dedication for product safety. We maintain a steadfast focus on regulatory compliance, design safety, and product integrity.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Leads defining and validating safety, mission success, and airworthiness; provides support incorporating into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes.
  • Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Establishes global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.
  • Executing system and airplane level analyses (e.g., Aircraft or System Functional Hazard Assessment (AFHA/SFHA), Common Resource Analysis, Multi-Functional Fault Tree Analysis (MFTA), Functional Design Assurance Level (FDAL) , Common Mode Assessment (CMA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), and Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA).
  • Providing safety design and analysis expertise to program stakeholders and leadership
  • Developing certification strategies for systems and airplane level safety issues.
  • Representing BSG-C in trade studies, coordination of safety analyses, and functional integration assessments.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
  • Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in aerospace systems engineering
  • Experience with system safety analysis
  • Experience effectively communicating, both verbally and in writing, and collaborating on multi-discipline teams
  • Experience working with FAR Part 25.1309, and industry practices like ARP 4761 & 4754
  • Experience working with cross discipline engineering teams
  • Experience in airplane systems design and/or analysis (e.g. flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, fuels, etc.) and/or systems integration
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources, as well as interpreting data and presenting analysis and recommendations to management

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range:
  • Senior (Level 4): $141,100 - $190,900
  • Senior (Level 5): $170,850 - $231,150
