The Senior AI Full-Stack Staff Engineer will lead technical development of AI-assisted full stack applications, mentor engineers, and establish coding standards while ensuring production quality and scalability.
Our client is a fast-growing, technology-driven specialty insurance platform that is transforming how commercial insurance products are built, distributed, and serviced. Backed by a leading private equity firm, the company combines deep industry expertise with modern engineering, data, and AI to deliver innovative solutions at scale.
The company is investing heavily in AI-enabled engineering practices, and is looking for a hands-on Senior Staff Engineer who can help raise the technical bar, accelerate delivery, and guide small engineering pods through complex product work.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys building, designing, and shipping software - not just advising from a distance. You will lead complex projects end-to-end, write production code, guide engineers, partner closely with product and business stakeholders, and help the team adopt more advanced AI-assisted development practices. You will act as a technical lead within small project-based pods, helping with architecture, task breakdown, code quality, delivery execution, and team mentorship.
Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent
Location: Remote, but MUST be physically located in the US.
Compensation: USD $150,000-175,000 base + bonus + full benefits (see below)
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and ship full stack software across backend services, APIs, data layers, and user-facing applications.
- Lead small engineering pods through complex, high-impact projects from discovery through delivery.
- Write production code while also guiding solution design, architecture, and technical decisions.
- Break down business and product requirements into clear technical plans and executable tasks.
- Partner with product managers, QA, business stakeholders, and engineering leadership to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
- Own technical quality across performance, reliability, maintainability, security, and user experience.
- Lead backend-heavy development involving APIs, third-party integrations, and internal platform capabilities.
- Support database design, proof-of-concepts, integration planning, and technical trade-off discussions.
- Help unblock engineers through code review, design guidance, troubleshooting, and hands-on problem solving.
- Use AI coding tools and agents to accelerate development, testing, documentation, and delivery workflows.
- Mentor engineers on effective AI-assisted development practices, including prompting, task decomposition, review, and validation.
- Step into complex or time-sensitive projects and help bring them to a successful outcome.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on full stack engineering background, with heavier depth in backend development.
- Advanced experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Experience with backend frameworks such as NestJS, Express, or similar.
- Strong experience designing and building REST APIs and third-party integrations.
- Solid frontend familiarity with React.
- Experience working in AWS environments.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
- CI/CD experience, preferably with GitHub Actions or similar tools.
- Container experience such as ECS, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to design solutions end-to-end, not just execute pre-defined requirements.
- Experience acting as a technical lead for small engineering teams or project pods.
- Strong ability to work independently in a lean, fast-moving engineering environment.
- Strong product mindset and comfort working directly with business and product stakeholders.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Practical experience using AI coding tools beyond basic prompt-and-response usage.
- Experience introducing AI-assisted development practices to an engineering team.
- Architecture or solution design experience close to architect level.
