At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we're looking for a Senior Analyst focused on distributed energy resources to help shape how our impact shows up in the world.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology-focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the Utility industry in North America. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at www.esource.com.

As a Senior Analyst, you'll play a key role on our Customer Energy Solutions Research and Analytics team, helping utility clients navigate DERs, load flexibility, and grid modernization. You'll work closely with utility clients, subject-matter experts, and cross-functional teams to translate complex research into clear, actionable guidance — ensuring our work is not only relevant, but clear, forward-thinking, and decision-ready.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of energy technology, customer programs, and applied research, brings strong judgment and a clear point of view to complex problems, and wants to contribute to work that shapes real-world decisions in the energy industry.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as an in-house expert on DER and grid edge topics, including virtual power plants (VPPs), battery storage, renewables, DERMS, load flexibility, and grid modernization

  • Write and present clear, concise responses to research and advisory requests from utility clients on DER, demand response, and grid-edge topics

  • Gather research from primary and secondary sources — including interviews, technical literature, and in-depth reading — and synthesize key findings into accessible written and presented content

  • Create data-driven, action-oriented content for reports, articles, technical briefs, webinars, and in-person events

  • Engage with utility clients through virtual and in-person meetings, presentations, and customized briefings

  • Shape and refine messaging, frameworks, and recommendations that inform our research agenda

  • Mentor junior analysts and share expertise across the company

  • Occasionally support larger advisory or consulting projects

  • Occasionally network with industry peers and represent E Source as a subject-matter expert at conferences and events

You're likely a great fit if you:

  • Have demonstrated expertise with DER programs, grid edge technologies, and utility customer energy solutions

  • Enjoy conducting interviews, reading dense technical documents, and distilling complex material into clear, actionable communication

  • Bring exceptional writing, verbal, and analytical skills — E Source differentiates itself through readable, clear, and concise reports that provide actionable advice to utility clients

  • Enjoy public speaking, presenting, and engaging verbally with clients on technical topics

  • Are passionate about quality, clarity, and real-world impact for utility customers

  • Work well across disciplines and proactively seek feedback, advice, and support from your team

  • Manage your time well, take initiative, collaborate, and follow through on commitments

And even better if you:

  • Have experience with electric and/or gas utility DER and demand-side management programs

  • Have worked with or around utilities, regulators, energy solution providers, or consultants in the energy industry

  • Have presented at industry conferences or published technical content

  • Have a proven ability to operate as a subject-matter expert and thought leader in client-facing environments

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

  • Five or more years of experience in DER research, utility program design, or a closely related field

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, energy policy, or a related discipline; advanced degree a plus

  • Strong written communication skills; a cover letter is required with your application

At E Source, you'll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You'll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect

  • Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans; and paid parental leave.

  • A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

  • A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $85,000–$110,000 USD + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be remote, with occasional travel for industry events and utility member meetings.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. We're unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
