Senior Business Intelligence Specialist

Join eBay and become a member of an ambitious team that’s reshaping the future of ecommerce! Our mission is to empower millions of buyers and sellers in over 190 markets globally by pushing boundaries and embracing bold ideas.

About the Team and the Role

At eBay, Nexpart plays a meaningful role in our mission by offering a B2B marketplace for professional automotive and truck parts companies. Our engineering team builds a world-class business intelligence and reporting platform. This platform helps our teams make faster and more accurate decisions using data from Elasticsearch, SQL Server, Dimensional Insights, flat files, and APIs. As a Senior Business Intelligence Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for crafting, developing, and improving our data platform to ensure smooth data flow and valuable analytics.

What You Will Accomplish
  • Develop, launch, and support a scalable BI and reporting platform using ClickHouse as the primary analytical database.

  • Develop robust Python-based ETL and ELT pipelines to extract, transform, validate, and load data from various sources.

  • Optimize ClickHouse query efficiency for dashboards, reports, and high-volume reporting tasks.

  • Build dimensional models, reporting marts, and reusable data assets.

  • Work alongside business partners to grasp reporting requirements and provide actionable dashboards and reports.

  • Assist in developing frontend reporting experiences with Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Tremor, AG Grid, and open-source charting libraries.

  • Develop AI-enabled reporting features for natural language queries and business performance insights.

  • Maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, pipeline documentation, runbooks, and reporting definitions.

What You Will Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence engineering, data engineering, or data platform development.

  • Extensive experience with ClickHouse in live or nearly live settings.

  • Strong proficiency in Python for ETL, data processing, automation, and production data workflows.

  • Advanced SQL skills for analytical queries, joins, aggregations, window functions, and query tuning.

  • Experience in collecting and combining data from systems such as Elasticsearch, SQL Server, APIs, and file-based sources.

  • Ability to convert business requirements into scalable technical solutions through direct collaboration with business partners.

  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills for data pipelines, SQL queries, and reporting logic.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Node.js, Next.js, TypeScript, React, or modern frontend development.

  • Experience in crafting APIs or backend services for reporting and analytics.

  • Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or custom Python schedulers.

  • Knowledge of Elasticsearch query patterns, indexing concepts, and large-scale search/log analytics data extraction.

  • Openness to learning TypeScript, JavaScript, and current frontend technologies if not already familiar.

Applied AI and Reporting Intelligence Focus

This role will push the boundaries of traditional dashboards and reports by applying AI to improve user interaction with business data. You will help develop and build features such as:

  • Natural-language queries over approved datasets and reports.

  • AI-assisted explanations of important metrics, trends, anomalies, and report logic.

  • Metadata-aware report search and documentation lookup.

  • AI-assisted SQL or query generation with validation and guardrails.

  • Automated report commentary and business insight generation.

  • Data quality explanations and anomaly investigation workflows.

  • Internal AI tools for faster ETL code, tests, documentation, and reporting component development.

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Build a modern BI and analytics platform from the ground up!

  • Work with high-performance analytical technologies such as ClickHouse and Parquet.

  • Solve meaningful challenges related to data quality, reporting accuracy, scalability, and business visibility.

  • Help build the future of AI in business reporting.

  • Collaborate with business, engineering, and product teams on high-impact initiatives.

  • Join a group that appreciates accountability, technical skill, ongoing education, and hands-on innovation.
