About the Role

Uber is home to one of the largest and most unique claims programs in the world. As our Sr. Claims Manager, Quality & Compliance, you will set the strategy and lead the operating model for claims quality and compliance, spanning First Notice of Loss (FNOL) quality assurance, the Claims Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control environment, audit readiness, and quality and compliance oversight of external claims partners.

You will translate business priorities into a coordinated roadmap with clear ownership, appropriate resourcing, and measurable outcomes. Working with Claims leadership, Operations, Financial Risk Management, Accounting, auditors, and carrier partners, you will build the systems and governance that improve quality, strengthen controls, and address recurring issues at their source.

This role requires a seasoned people leader who combines deep claims expertise with sound business judgment and the ability to lead through ambiguity. You will build and develop a well-rounded team, balance autonomy with coaching, and serve as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders. Your work will shape how internal teams and external partners deliver consistent, compliant claims experiences and prepare for future business needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Set strategy and priorities. Define and lead the claims quality and compliance roadmap, connecting FNOL quality, control effectiveness, audit readiness, and partner performance to broader Claims and company priorities. Make clear tradeoffs across initiatives and align resources to the highest-impact needs.
  • Build and develop the team. Lead a team of claims quality and compliance professionals, define accountabilities, and develop the capabilities needed to deliver the roadmap. Provide thoughtful coaching, delegate with clear expectations, and create a collaborative environment that supports learning, candid feedback, and sustainable performance.
  • Design systems that deliver consistent results. Establish governance, decision rights, performance measures, and structured business reviews that align internal teams and external partners around shared objectives. Adjust priorities and capacity as risks, business needs, and performance change.
  • Lead the FNOL quality framework. Direct the design and continuous improvement of QA methodologies, sampling approaches, scorecards, calibration, and root-cause analysis. Translate findings into improvements in processes, training, and tooling, and verify that corrective actions produce sustained results.
  • Lead Claims SOX control governance. Oversee control matrices, narratives, evidence readiness, and remediation across the Claims control environment. Coordinate control design and testing with control owners, Financial Risk Management, Accounting, and auditors; establish clear accountability for timely deficiency resolution.
  • Lead audit engagement for Claims. Serve as the senior Claims point of contact for SOX, statutory, and carrier audits. Clearly explain processes, risks, control design, and operating effectiveness, and coordinate accurate, timely responses to audit requests and findings.
  • Strengthen external partner accountability. Partner with carrier and third-party administrator stakeholders and internal Claims leaders to establish consistent quality and compliance expectations, review performance, and drive corrective action on systemic issues.
  • Drive cross-functional change. Lead complex improvements across operational workflows, tooling, and training. Bring structure to ambiguous problems, align stakeholders on requirements and tradeoffs, and guide initiatives from problem definition through implementation, adoption, and measurement.
  • Anticipate future needs and influence decisions. Stay current on claims practices, industry developments, and relevant regulatory changes. Advise leadership on implications for quality, controls, and operating capacity, and present clear recommendations that inform strategic planning.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of people management experience, with demonstrated ability to build team capabilities, coach experienced professionals, and deliver results through others.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of experience dedicated to audit, SOX, or regulatory compliance.
  • Prior experience as a property and casualty (P&C) claims adjuster or within a gig-economy claims team.
  • AIC, SCLA, or CPCU designation.
  • Auto insurance claims handling or management experience.
  • Prior Big Four or large public-company SOX audit exposure.
  • Experience managing third-party administrators or carrier partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to define a strategy and translate it into an actionable roadmap across multiple complex workstreams, including priorities, ownership, resourcing, and measurable outcomes.
