POSITION SUMMARY:
Rigel is seeking a Senior Commercial Accountant to support its growing business. This role will report to the Revenue Director and play a key role in revenue accounting, accounts receivable, and inventory accounting, distributor/channel activity, gross-to-net support, and commercial analytics.
This position will support the monthly and quarterly financial close, audit and SOX compliance activities, and reporting requirements in a publicly traded biotech environment. The role will also provide exposure to gross-to-net, government pricing, and pricing-related analysis, with the opportunity to take on increasing ownership of GTN components and commercial product support over time.
Salary Range: $120,000 to $145,000
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Commercial Accounting, Revenue Close & Reporting
- Support monthly and quarterly revenue close activities in accordance with revenue recognition guidance, including ASC 606.
- Prepare and record journal entries related to product revenue, reserves, allowances, accounts receivable, inventory, and other commercial accounting areas.
- Perform account reconciliations and flux analyses for revenue, AR, inventory, GTN, and other commercial-related accounts.
- Assist in the review and analysis of gross-to-net estimates, including rebates, chargebacks, returns, and other deductions.
- Support the monthly reporting requirements under the Company’s credit facility.
- Assist with the financial close process and related internal reporting requirements.
- Support internal and external audit requests and SOX compliance activities related to revenue and commercial accounting.
- Accounts Receivable, Customer & Channel Accounting
- Manage and monitor accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, collections, aging analysis, and customer account follow-up.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and customers to resolve billing, payment, deduction, and other AR-related discrepancies.
- Support accounting for distribution channels, including specialty pharmacy and wholesale activity.
- Assist in understanding and analyzing commercial activity, including revenue drivers, customer activity, and deductions.
- Inventory & Supply Chain Accounting
- Support inventory accounting, including reconciliations, reserves, and inventory-related journal entries.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain and other internal teams to understand inventory activity, product movement, reserves, and related accounting impacts.
- Perform standard cost analysis and calculations.
- Assist with inventory-related close activities, reporting, and analysis.
- Gross-to-Net, Government Pricing & Commercial Analytics
- Support the Director of Revenue in GTN forecasting, true-ups, reserve analysis, and related reporting.
- Assist with data gathering and validation for government pricing programs, including Medicaid, PHS/340B, VA/FSS, and other applicable programs.
- Review contracts and contract amendments, as needed, to assess accounting and financial impacts.
- Provide support in the preparation of Pricing Committee materials and other scenario planning analyses.
- Over time, take on increasing ownership of GTN components, including responsibility for preparing GTN calculations for at least one commercial product with guidance.
- Partner with Commercial, Market Access, Supply Chain, FP&A, and other internal teams to understand drivers of revenue, deductions, inventory, and commercial performance.
- Process Improvement & Automation
- Support process improvement and automation initiatives across commercial accounting, revenue, GTN, inventory, and reporting processes.
- Help identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, controls, analytics, and business insights.
- Assist in leveraging systems, data analytics, and automation tools to streamline workflows and enhance forecasting, reserve estimation, and reporting processes.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (CPA or CPA-eligible preferred)
- 5–7+ years of relevant experience (public accounting and/or industry experience)
- Experience with revenue accounting, AR, or commercial accounting required
- Exposure to life sciences / biotech / pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred
- Familiarity with GTN, chargebacks, or rebates is a plus, but not required
- Experience with inventory accounting is a plus
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, public company environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Proactive and motivated to learn complex, regulated areas such as GTN and government pricing
