About the Team
The Legal team is a strategic partner to the business, helping teams move quickly and responsibly as the company scales. We work cross-functionally with supply chain, business development, product, engineering, partnerships, and other groups to enable innovation, manage risk, and build scalable processes. Our team values practical judgment, clear communication, collaboration, and a solutions-oriented approach.

About the Role

As Senior Commercial Counsel, you will advise on the commercial transactions that support our mission and day-to-day operations. You will structure, draft, negotiate, and manage agreements involving vehicle systems and components, intellectual property, strategic partnerships, software and SaaS, professional services, goods and services, non-disclosure agreements, and more.

This role is ideal for a pragmatic, business-minded attorney who can independently manage matters ranging from routine agreements to complex, groundbreaking transactions. Success requires sound judgment, strong execution, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to working with teams across the company.

About the Work

  • Lead commercial transactions from intake through post-signature management, partnering with business and technical teams to develop strategies, negotiate with counterparties, and finalize agreements.
  • Advise on legal and business risks, explain complex terms clearly, and recommend practical, risk-conscious solutions aligned with company objectives.
  • Support matters across supply chain; business development, product, and partnerships; intellectual property and licensing; data privacy and security; marketing; real estate and facilities; and other areas as needed.
  • Train cross-functional teams on commercial contracting requirements, best practices, and effective risk management.
  • Help implement and launch a new contract lifecycle management (CLM) system, including templates, playbooks, fallback positions, workflows, and related process improvements.
  • Streamline and automate contracting processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and visibility.
  • Serve as a legal “utility player,” contributing beyond commercial transactions in areas such as intellectual property, privacy, marketing, real estate, and product- or customer-facing matters.
  • Apply AI tools thoughtfully to improve legal workflows, processes, and team efficiency.

About You

  • 7+ years of legal experience in a fast-growing, technology-focused company, top-tier law firm, or a combination of both, with significant experience independently handling complex commercial transactions.
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to produce polished work for executive and external audiences.
  • Experience advising high-growth technology businesses and translating complex legal issues into practical, actionable business guidance.
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property, privacy, liability and risk allocation, and supply chain matters; automotive, hardware, or transportation experience is a plus.
  • Strong legal judgment and business acumen, with the ability to assess risk, present clear options, and make accountable recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently, build trust with business leaders, and distinguish urgent issues from those that are most important.
  • Execution-oriented and resourceful, with a demonstrated ability to drive processes forward, overcome obstacles, conduct rigorous research, and deliver results.
  • Collaborative, creative, and effective in small, diverse, cross-functional teams, with a commitment to practical problem-solving and meaningful business impact.
  • Interest in using AI and other tools to improve legal workflows, operational efficiency, and team effectiveness.
  • Admission to at least one state bar required; California Bar membership preferred. Admission in additional jurisdictions is a plus.
