Job Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Component Engineer for PCB & Board-Level Electronics to own the technical component strategy and lifecycle risk management for electronic components used across our board-level hardware products, from new product introduction (NPI) through high-volume manufacturing and end of life.
You will work at the intersection of Electrical Engineering, Hardware Design, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and our component suppliers and manufacturing partners. The role combines deep electrical and component engineering expertise with a strong understanding of supply markets, cost, lifecycle, and manufacturing risk.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for ensuring that critical board-level components, including ICs, PMICs and power devices, capacitors, resistors, inductors, discretes, timing devices, memory and other active and passive components - meet product performance, power, reliability, cost, availability, and lifecycle requirements. A core mandate is to eliminate avoidable single-source exposure by building technically sound dual- and multi-source strategies before supply constraints become critical.
The Role:
  • Own component engineering strategy for assigned board-level electronic component families from architecture and NPI through qualification, production ramp, sustaining, and end of life.
  • Partner with Electrical and Hardware Engineering early in the design cycle to influence component selection based on electrical performance, power, thermal behavior, reliability, manufacturability, cost, availability, supplier roadmap, and lifecycle risk.
  • Provide deep technical expertise across ICs, PMICs and power-management devices, capacitors, resistors, inductors, discretes, timing devices, memory, and other board-level active and passive components.
  • Lead technical evaluation, selection, characterization, and qualification of new components and alternate sources, including form-fit-function analysis, datasheet and specification review, derating, reliability, and application-level performance assessment.
  • Develop and execute dual-source and multi-source strategies for critical components, prioritizing high-risk, single-source, long-lead-time, constrained, or strategically important parts.
  • Own the technical qualification path for second sources and substitutions, determining when paper qualification, engineering characterization, board-level validation, reliability testing, or full system qualification is required.
  • Conduct proactive BOM risk reviews at key NPI gates and throughout the product lifecycle to identify single-source exposure, lifecycle status, lead-time risk, allocation, supplier concentration, geographic risk, and cost opportunities.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain to develop component strategies that balance technical performance with cost, capacity, lead time, supplier leverage, and assurance of supply.
  • Monitor supplier roadmaps, Product Change Notifications (PCNs), lifecycle status, NRND/EOL notices, last-time-buy requirements, and technology transitions; drive mitigation plans before they impact production.
  • Develop obsolescence and end-of-life strategies including alternate qualification, redesign recommendations, bridge buys, last-time buys, and inventory strategies based on technical and business tradeoffs.
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturers on technical roadmaps, component availability, qualification data, manufacturing changes, failure analysis, quality issues, and capacity or technology transitions.
  • Support NPI builds and production ramps by rapidly assessing component substitutions, shortages, quality excursions, and other material risks without compromising product performance or reliability.
  • Lead component-level technical trade studies that quantify performance, power, thermal, reliability, cost, and supply-chain implications of competing component choices.
  • Drive component standardization and preferred-part strategies across programs to reduce unnecessary part proliferation, increase purchasing leverage, improve reuse, and simplify qualification and supply management.
  • Maintain component governance and engineering data across approved manufacturer/vendor lists (AML/AVL), BOMs, PLM systems, ECNs/ECOs, PCNs, and component lifecycle databases.
  • Partner with Quality and Reliability Engineering on component qualification, supplier change control, failure analysis, corrective actions, and reliability improvement.
  • Develop and report component health and risk metrics, including single-source exposure, dual-source coverage, lifecycle risk, EOL exposure, qualification status, and mitigation closure.
  • Present component readiness, technical tradeoffs, supply risks, and mitigation recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in component engineering, electrical/hardware engineering, electronics reliability, supplier engineering, or a related field supporting complex electronic products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • Deep technical knowledge of board-level electronic components, particularly ICs, PMICs/power devices, capacitors, resistors, inductors, discretes, and related active and passive components.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB designs, BOMs, component datasheets, electrical specifications, qualification reports, reliability data, and supplier technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience selecting and qualifying components based on electrical performance, power, thermal, reliability, derating, manufacturability, and application requirements.
  • Proven experience qualifying alternate components and developing dual-source or multi-source strategies for production hardware.
  • Experience supporting products across the full lifecycle: architecture/design, NPI, qualification, production ramp, high-volume manufacturing, sustaining, and end of life.
  • Strong understanding of component lifecycle management, including PCNs, EOL/NRND, obsolescence forecasting, last-time buys, and redesign or alternate-source mitigation.
  • Experience performing BOM risk analysis and translating component-level technical risk into actionable engineering and supply-chain mitigation plans.
  • Ability to evaluate technical, cost, supply, and lifecycle tradeoffs and make clear, data-driven recommendations across Engineering and Supply Chain.
  • Experience working directly with semiconductor/component suppliers, distributors, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

"Nice To Have" Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, servers, networking, data center, or other complex high-power/high-speed electronic systems.
  • Deep experience with power delivery architectures and components, including PMICs, voltage regulators, power stages, MOSFETs, capacitors, magnetics, and related power-management devices.
  • Experience with component qualification and reliability methodologies such as derating, HTOL, HAST, temperature cycling, electrical characterization, and component-level failure analysis.
  • Experience with high-volume PCB/PCBA manufacturing and the interaction between component selection, board design, manufacturing yield, test, and field reliability.
  • Experience using PLM/ERP and component lifecycle or supply-risk tools and managing AML/AVL, BOM, ECN/ECO, and PCN processes.
  • Established relationships with leading semiconductor, passive-component, and power-management suppliers.
  • Experience building preferred-part libraries, component standards, design guidelines, or enterprise-wide component governance processes.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required to engage suppliers and manufacturing partners.
