Senior Content Marketing Manager - athenaInstitute

We are looking for a Senior Content Marketing Manager to join our Marketing division here at athenahealth. In this role, the Senior Content Marketing Manager for the athenaInstitute will serve as the editorial and strategic lead for athenahealth’s flagship thought leadership platform. This individual will work to transform research, data, and ideas into influential, insight-driven content that defines athenahealth’s intellectual presence in the healthcare industry.

Reporting to the Director of Content Strategy, the Senior Content Marketing Manager will shape the athenaInstitute’s content vision and editorial calendar, overseeing creation of high-impact assets such as white papers, research summaries, trend reports, policy perspectives, multimedia storytelling, and event-driven thought leadership. The Senior Content Marketing Manager will ensure that all AthenaInstitute content is evidence-based, analytically rigorous, visually compelling, and aligned with athenahealth’s brand voice and strategic priorities. This individual will partner across Research, Brand, Corporate Communications, Creative, Digital Experience, and Executive Leadership to turn data and insights into actionable narratives that resonate with healthcare leaders, policymakers, media, and industry partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the content strategy and editorial calendar for the athenaInstitute, defining themes, narratives, and publication cadence across research, insights, and multimedia.

  • Translate complex research findings and data analyses into compelling, accessible stories that position athenahealth as a trusted voice on healthcare transformation.

  • Partner with Research and Product Marketing to identify and shape derivative assets from AthenaInstitute studies—white papers, infographics, articles, dashboards, and executive summaries.

  • Develop and edit high-level trend and policy content, articulating macro forces shaping healthcare delivery, innovation, and value-based care.

  • Ensure content quality, accuracy, and consistency across written, visual, and interactive formats.

  • Maintain the athenaInstitute’s voice, ensuring tone is authoritative, inclusive, and grounded in evidence.

  • Collaborate with Integrated Marketing, Brand, and Events teams to create content that supports major moments like Thrive, HIMSS, and industry summits—including thought leadership panels, roundtables, and speaking engagements.

  • Partner with multimedia, video, and podcast production teams to translate research and insights into engaging, multi-format storytelling.

  • Lead development of content partnerships with media, academic, and policy organizations that extend the reach and credibility of AthenaInstitute insights.

  • Support executive communications with data-backed narratives and thought leadership aligned to AthenaInstitute themes

  • Serve as editorial liaison with the Research and Data Science teams, ensuring findings are synthesized into clear, compelling narratives.

  • Manage creation of research derivatives such as summary reports, explainer articles, executive decks, and visual data storytelling assets.

  • Maintain alignment with athenahealth’s overall content strategy and ensure AthenaInstitute content follows brand, compliance, and editorial standards.

  • Partner with the Performance Analytics and SEO/LLMO team to ensure AthenaInstitute content is optimized and measurable across digital platforms.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in editorial content strategy, thought leadership, or research communications, in healthcare, public policy, or B2B SaaS.

  • Demonstrated success transforming complex research into high-impact, data-driven storytelling.

  • Strong editorial judgment, writing, and editing skills with a journalistic or analytical orientation.

  • Experience developing multimedia and cross-channel thought leadership content (print, digital, video, podcast, event).

  • Familiarity with healthcare policy, technology trends, and the dynamics of care delivery and reimbursement.

  • Skilled at synthesizing research findings into narratives that resonate with executive audiences and media.

  • Deep understanding of editorial workflows, approvals, and governance for long-form and derivative content.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams and agencies.

  • Strong project management discipline, with experience managing calendars, approvals, and publication workflows.

  • Please submit samples of work along with application
