What the Senior Director of Business Development does at Worldwide.

You will have a proven track record in building productive client relationships in the clinical research or health sciences industries. The post holder will be able to achieve and maintain effective client relationships. They must be able to design and deliver powerful solution-driven capabilities and proposal defense presentations in collaboration with highly skilled clinical and operational personnel; create business opportunities through client needs identification and relationship building; and proactively work with customer and project teams to resolve client concerns by helping to create specific action plans that support the customer and the project team. Makes sales calls to prospective new clients to initiate new business relationships. Utilizes strategies and implements tactics to persuade prospective sponsors to contract with Worldwide Clinical Trials. Coordinates efforts for responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs). Represents Worldwide Clinical Trials at industry-related conferences and trade shows.

What you will do

  • Achieve individual revenue and sales objectives through proactive communication and sales for the Worldwide Clinical Trials late phase services to assigned clients
  • Connect the Worldwide Clinical Trials team to your established network of biotechnology and pharmaceutical contacts
  • Identify new contact leads for potential Phase II-IV Worldwide Clinical Trials business
  • Develop and implement individual, territory, and key account strategies that are specifically geared to the growth and retention of the client base
  • Responsible for aiding the development of project proposals, including but not limited to communicating with clients, internal Project Directors and Project Managers, and providing text and supporting study budget reviews
  • Coordinate and attend trade shows, including making exhibition arrangements, organizing meetings, and hospitality suite arrangements. Ensure that trade show activities run smoothly and are within budget
  • Professionally conduct teleconferences, client meetings, general capabilities meetings, and bid defense meetings with all key accounts in pursuit of new business opportunities
  • Provide continuous general intelligence on all key competitors, their services, acquisitions, and pricing
  • Provide daily updates to the Sales Force Automation Client Contact and Mailing Database (Customer Relationship Management (CRM))
  • Provide bi-weekly sales reports outlining major client visits, phone calls, accomplishments, and objectives/goals achieved or missed
  • Actively engage senior management in all major business presentations and discussions regarding a strategic account and/or top opportunity
  • Actively coordinate the interaction between Sponsor (Client) and key Worldwide Clinical Trials team members
  • Determine new approaches to problem solving and devise solutions within scope of responsibility
  • Make travel arrangements as needed to pursue new business and maintain client relationships. Comply with Worldwide Clinical Trials travel policies
  • Be able and willing to travel throughout the assigned geographical territory as well as nationally and internationally
  • Require independent judgment and understanding of corporate goals and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management and as necessary to meet business challenges
  • May include mentoring and/or managing Business Development team members at Worldwide Clinical Trials

What you bring to the role

Your experience

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business or Life Sciences
  • Master of Science (MS) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred
  • Ten (10) years of sales experience in Contract Research Organization (CRO) industries
  • Clinical Operations background preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of sales methods and practices
  • Knowledge of the drug development process, preferably gained within a Contract Research Organization (CRO)
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and sales management software
  • Promotion to the next level is not automatic based on years of experience. Personnel are evaluated on proven competency, level of responsibility, and ability to work independently.

The salary range for this position is annually (For hourly paid positions, the stated salary range reflects hourly rates):


United States of America - $164,000.00 - $326,000.00


The salary range provided is intended to give candidates an understanding of potential earnings. Compensation will fall within the provided range, and it not a guarantee of exact salary. The final salary will be determined based on relevant experience, performance, education, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive benefits package depending on location. We ensure pay equity and transparency and comply with all applicable labor laws. Salary information will be discussed during the interview process, and we encourage candidates to inquire about compensation at any stage.
