About the role

We're looking for a Senior Director, Membership Strategy to help shape the future of Crunchyroll's global membership experience. At the heart of this role is a simple question: What makes fans join Crunchyroll, and what makes them stay?

You'll define how streaming, games, commerce, digital manga, and other benefits come together to create a membership that's worth more than any one offering alone. Working across senior leadership, you'll set the strategic priorities that connect these businesses around a shared membership vision, without owning their individual strategies.

Reporting to the VP of Strategy within the Chief Strategy Officer organization, you'll be part of a team responsible for Crunchyroll's enterprise, membership, and SVOD strategies, grounded in fan insights, competitive intelligence, and market research. Together, the team helps shape Crunchyroll's long-term direction and global growth.

Core Responsibilities
  • Define and evolve Crunchyroll's global membership value proposition, including what drives fans to join, engage, and stay.
  • Set membership-level strategic priorities that connect streaming, games, commerce, digital manga, events, and other offerings into a compelling membership experience.
  • Partner with senior leaders across business lines to align their individual strategies with the broader membership vision, without owning their day-to-day strategies or operations.
  • Establish strategic frameworks, performance measures, and planning processes that drive alignment across business lines, Finance, and regional teams.
  • Shape the strategy for membership tiers and benefits, providing strategic direction to Commercial Planning on pricing, promotions, and tier structures.
  • Build business cases for new and expanded membership benefits, including opportunity sizing, financial impact, and experimentation.
  • Partner with Finance on long-term membership growth, revenue, and unit economics to inform investment priorities and strategic trade-offs.
  • Develop and refine fan segmentation frameworks, partnering with Fan Insights and Market Intelligence on research to understand member behavior and test the membership value proposition.
  • Evaluate membership value, pricing, competitive positioning, and regional market dynamics to identify growth opportunities and inform commercial decisions.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging business models, and product innovation to identify opportunities for differentiation.
  • Present strategic recommendations to senior leadership, escalating membership priorities and trade-offs that require broader enterprise decisions.
About You
  • 15+ years of experience, including a background in management consulting, either as a career consultant or having transitioned into an in-house strategy role. Experience in media, technology, or consumer subscription businesses is preferred.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Experience with subscription or membership businesses, including value proposition design, tiering, and benefit architecture.
  • Proven track record of setting strategic direction and aligning senior leaders across business lines without direct authority.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, including presenting strategic recommendations to C-suite executives.
  • Sound judgment in navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving business strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the emotional intelligence to build relationships and influence across teams.
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in digital retail, subscription services, advertising, or e-commerce a plus.
About the Team

The Strategy team sits within the Chief Strategy Officer organization, with the VP of Strategy reporting directly to the CSO. The team owns Crunchyroll's enterprise strategy, membership strategy, and SVOD strategy, along with the fan, competitor, and market research that grounds them. It is tasked with shaping Crunchyroll's long-term direction and helping orchestrate how the company unlocks value, fuels global growth, and inspires deeper avidity for Crunchyroll across the anime fan ecosystem.
