Opportunity

Adapture Renewables, Inc. is a leading developer, financier, engineer, builder, and operator of large utility-scale photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems. Leveraging our deep industry expertise, we deliver projects with exceptional speed, flexibility, and quality. Our dynamic Project Management and Engineering (PME) team is seeking a skilled Senior Director of Procurement to contribute to our mission of building a sustainable future. Based remotely, or in Oakland, CA, you will join a company backed by KIRKBI Climate, the private holding company of the Kirk Kristiansen family and the foundation of the LEGO® brand.

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Director of Strategic Procurement to build and lead a centralized procurement function for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.

As the company scales, procurement is evolving from a project-based activity within pre-construction to a core strategic function. This role will establish procurement strategy across the portfolio, lead executive-level supplier relationships, and drive commercial outcomes across major equipment, EPC, and long-lead infrastructure.

This leader will operate at the intersection of Development, Engineering, and Construction—owning supplier strategy, market leverage, and commercial structuring, while partnering with pre-construction teams who execute at the project level.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement Leadership

  • Define and execute a portfolio-level procurement strategy for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects
  • Transition procurement from a project-based function to a centralized, strategic capability
  • Align sourcing strategies with development pipeline, engineering standards, and construction execution

Supplier Strategy & Market Leadership

  • Serve as executive point of contact for key OEMs, EPC partners, and strategic suppliers
  • Leverage industry relationships to secure capacity, pricing advantages, and priority access to constrained equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear, BESS systems)
  • Develop and manage preferred supplier networks and long-term strategic partnerships
  • Provide market intelligence on pricing, lead times, tariffs, and supply chain dynamics to inform executive decision-making

Commercial Structuring & Negotiation

  • Lead commercial strategy and negotiation for major supply agreements, EPC contracts, and MSAs
  • Structure contracts to mitigate risk related to pricing volatility, tariffs, delivery constraints, and performance
  • Drive portfolio-level negotiations and aggregation strategies to optimize cost and terms
  • Partner with Construction and Pre-Construction leadership on EPC commercial alignment

Procurement Oversight & Execution Alignment

  • Provide strategic oversight of procurement execution currently managed within Pre-Construction
  • Define procurement frameworks, standards, and processes to improve consistency and scalability
  • Ensure alignment between procurement strategy and project schedules, budgets, and delivery requirements
  • Guide long-lead equipment planning and risk mitigation strategies

Function Build-Out & Team Leadership

  • Stand up and scale a centralized strategic procurement function
  • Initially operate in a highly cross-functional environment with indirect leadership over pre-construction procurement activities
  • Build and lead a dedicated procurement team over time
  • Establish KPIs, tools, and processes for procurement performance and accountability

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks (geopolitical, trade compliance, supplier concentration)
  • Ensure compliance with domestic content requirements, IRA provisions, and ESG standards
  • Develop contingency sourcing and supplier diversification strategies

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of procurement, sourcing, or commercial leadership experience, with significant experience in utility-scale solar and/or BESS
  • Proven track record negotiating large, complex agreements ($50M+) across equipment and/or EPC
  • Experience operating at a strategic level with Tier 1 suppliers and global manufacturers
  • Background in building or scaling procurement/supply chain functions preferred
  • Deep knowledge of solar PV and/or battery storage supply chains, including:
    • Modules, inverters, trackers
    • BESS systems and components
    • Substation and interconnection equipment
  • Strong understanding of EPC contracting structures and project delivery models
  • Familiarity with U.S. energy markets, tariffs, logistics, and IRA requirements
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence cross-functional leadership (Engineering, Construction, Development)
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Ability to operate both strategically and pragmatically in a scaling organization
  • Experience leading through influence before building direct teams

Benefits Package

  • 401(k) plan with company matching contribution
  • Competitive health, vision, and dental benefits
  • Attractive personal time off and company holiday package
  • Work-from-home policy
  • Salary commensurate with experience

Compensation

The salary range for this full-time position is commensurate with experience and location.
