Steno was built on a simple idea - litigation support shouldn't be an obstacle. Since 2018, we've been delivering on that promise, growing into a business with over $90M raised, a team that continues to scale, and a multi-product platform serving thousands of law firms nationwide. We combine expert services, proprietary data, and modern technology in a way no one else in the legal industry can.

As the business scales, so does the complexity of supporting our people. This is a first-of-its-kind role at Steno with a clear mandate to build the Total Rewards, HRIS, and People Data function with the full support of executive leadership.

Who are you?

You are a senior Total Rewards and HRIS leader with deep functional expertise and experience helping organizations scale. You've built compensation frameworks, benefits programs, HR systems, and people analytics capabilities at high-growth companies and you know the hard part isn't administering the program, it's making sure it’s designed to drive the talent strategy and holds up as the business scales. You lead with data and judgment. You're as comfortable presenting a compensation philosophy to executive leadership as you are in the details of a systems integration.

You're a builder. Foundational work energizes you. You carry the culture with you, earn trust across functions quickly, and understand that Total Rewards and HRIS done well is a meaningful business driver.

What you’ll drive

  • Shape Steno's Total Rewards and HRIS philosophy and strategy, ensuring our programs are competitive, equitable, and built to scale.
  • Build a total compensation framework that is rigorous, market-informed, and designed to attract and retain exceptional people, spanning job architecture, pay bands, bonus, and equity.
  • Oversee benefits strategy and administration end to end, ensuring programs are competitive, compliant, and meaningful to the people who rely on them.
  • Build an HRIS and People Data foundation that powers smart people decisions across the org including systems roadmap, data integrity, integrations, and reporting.
  • Partner with IT, Data, and functional leaders as the go-to thought partner on People technology, tools, and metrics, closing systems gaps and ensuring solutions keep pace with the business.
  • Design and manage employee recognition programs that reinforce Steno's culture and values.
  • Stay close to market trends, benchmarking data, and regulatory requirements to ensure Steno's programs remain competitive and compliant.
  • Lead a high-performing Total Rewards, HRIS, and Data team, setting a clear direction and developing the people on it.
  • Own the Total Rewards budget and vendor relationships, making smart tradeoffs and advocating for what the roadmap needs.

You’ll thrive here if

  • You've spent 10+ years in total rewards or a related HR discipline and have led a team.
  • You've built or significantly evolved compensation frameworks, benefits programs, and equity plans at a high-growth company.
  • You've owned an HRIS roadmap and understand what it takes to build a people data infrastructure that the business relies on.
  • You understand the regulatory and security landscape that governs compensation, benefits, and people data and stay current as it evolves.
  • You take accountability for compensation and benefits spend and bring the financial discipline that stewarding investments of this scale requires.
  • You're comfortable being both the strategist and the builder.  You like getting in the weeds and no job is too small.
  • You lead with data and judgment.  You can build the model and present the recommendation with equal confidence.
  • You've navigated ambiguity and change with composure and know how to bring people along with you.
  • You're fluent in the tools that power this work - Rippling, Carta, Google Workspace, and Slack.
