Own electrical engineering for heavy-duty machinery, including system design, schematics, wiring, harnesses, installation, integration, testing, debugging, and fault resolution. Collaborate with mechanical, software, manufacturing, hardware, and technician teams to improve machine designs and transition prototypes into repeatable production. The role is hands-on and primarily onsite, involving shop-floor work and electrical subsystem rework.

About the company

Our client is a robotics and automation company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own the electrical side of heavy-duty machinery, covering design, documentation, physical build and debugging. You will help the engineering group move from individual prototype units toward a repeatable production process, collaborating with technicians and colleagues from other disciplines.

What you'll do

- Diagnose, integrate and scale the electrical systems of large machines, from power and motion components to sensing, control and cabling.

- Produce and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs and supporting documentation that set shared standards for later builds.

- Spend time on the shop floor handling cable routing, installation, system bring-up, testing and fault resolution with technicians and fellow engineers.

- Rework electrical subsystems as needs change, using field learnings to make designs sturdier and simpler to build in volume.

- Help the organization shift from prototype units to repeatable production as manufacturing capacity grows.

- Work side by side with mechanical, software, manufacturing and hardware colleagues so the electrical design fits the complete machine.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Roughly 3 or more years of professional electrical engineering experience.

- A track record on sizeable physical equipment, not only circuit boards or compact electronics.

- Practical, hands-on experience with wiring, harness assembly and integration on real machines.

- Experience choosing and integrating motion, sensing and control components, including PLCs.

- Comfort working in a small, fast-moving research and development setting.

- A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.

- Living in the San Francisco Bay Area or ready to relocate there, and able to work on-site most days of the week.

- Existing authorization to work in the US without new H-1B sponsorship (transfers are fine).

Bonus points

- Prior time at a company building robots, electric vehicles or autonomous vehicles.

- Skill using CAD software to create schematics, wiring diagrams and harness designs.

Benefits

Compensation and benefits

- Base salary: USD 165,000 to 200,000 per year

- Equity

- Health, dental and vision coverage

- Life insurance

- Retirement plan with employer match

- Commuter benefits

Location and work model

- San Leandro, CA, United States

- On-site, 4-5 days per week in the office

- Full-time

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
