Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Electro Mechanical Design Engineer - Plant to optimize the design and manufacturability for our balance of plant equipment. You will produce complex schematics, 3D models, and detailed mechanical prints with all specifications and callouts for a product that can survive and thrive. Your designs will be mindful of all requirements in play including, but not limited to shipping, installation, operational lifetime, and service at our project sites. Moreover, you will specify testing requirements that will prove the functionality and reliability of your designs. Alongside our world-class supply chain team, you will own component selection for your designs and spearhead vendor relationships - from exploring new strategic partnerships to owning releases and engineering changes in our product lifecycle management system. This role will showcase your ability to independently generate and organize engineering documentation and requirements needed to interface with our Electronics, Software, and Project Engineering teams. This is an exciting opportunity to move some serious power at a company focused on creating a reliable and fully renewable electric grid year-round!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Architecture & Requirements: Identify electrical requirements and define system interfaces for key power conversion equipment, plant, and auxiliary systems.

  • Electrical Design: Author comprehensive electrical schematics for equipment for audiences involved in build, test, installation and service.

  • Component Engineering & Sourcing: Select off-the-shelf (OTS) electromechanical components that comply with relevant safety standards and partner with both external and internal supply chain teams to drive down component pricing and long-lead times.

  • Cabinet Packaging & 3D Layout: Design component layouts using SolidWorks and/or Eplan to optimize space, cable routing, thermal management, and internal electronics placement.

  • Technical Documentation: Generate manufacturing documentation—including multiline diagrams, component layouts, harness drawings, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs)—for contract manufacturers and internal stakeholders.

  • Testing & Verification Standards: Author functional, performance, and End-of-Line (EOL) test plans and operating procedures to ensure manufacturing quality and field reliability.

  • Prototype Testing & Validation: Perform hands-on validation and characterization for prototypes and vendor first-articles in close coordination with software and project engineering.

  • Reliability & Life-Testing: Work with our reliability team to develop environmental and electrical stress tests to quantify system design life.

  • PLM & Configuration Management: Manage product configuration, engineering releases, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using SolidWorks PDM and Arena PLM.

  • Field Deployment & Commissioning: Scale lab insights to real-world applications through direct involvement in commissioning and testing first-in-kind field installations.

  • Cross-Functional Support: Support all stages of the power conversion system lifecycle, adapting to evolving product and team needs.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years industry experience in electromechanical design.

  • Strong understanding of circuit fundamentals, and the relevant thermal and mechanical considerations of circuits at high power density and high voltage.

  • Proficiency in electrical design using software packages such as Altium, Eplan, and/or Solidworks Electrical.

  • Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks and/or Eplan) for 3D modeling, component layouts, and product packaging.

  • Hands-on experience assembling, troubleshooting, and validating self-designed equipment and prototypes.

  • Demonstrated experience designing service procedures and engineering safeguards for high-voltage (1500 VDC) and high-current (> 2 kA) systems; experience applying UL 1741, UL 508A, NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly and succinctly explain design decisions and execute multidisciplinary work.

  • Sense of urgency and self-driven to hit difficult schedule targets.
