The Role

Voltus is the leading DER technology platform and virtual power plant operator, connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets to deliver less expensive, more reliable, and more sustainable electricity. We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good, with a genuine passion for a cleaner energy future.

MISO is one of our fastest growing markets, and we're looking for a Manager to help lead that charge. MISO is the frontier of our industry today, and this role means embracing ambiguity and uncharted territory as the market matures around us.

You'll serve as a key relationship-builder and figurehead for our MISO strategy, working directly with utilities, grid operators, and policymakers to track and react to changing market design. You'll synthesize what those changes mean for our existing customers, new deals, product roadmap, and sales approach, and communicate that clearly across the org. This is a high-visibility, cross-functional role where relationship building, project management, and the judgment to prioritize matter more than day-to-day operational or dispatch management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Share ownership of our MISO book. Be accountable for the revenue and profitability of our MISO DER portfolio: including financial modeling, forecasting, customer settlement, capacity position management, and performance optimization.

  • Do everything in your power to make sure Voltus delivers on our commitments to grid operators: maintain rigorous compliance with the MISO Tariff and take all steps necessary to ensure our DER portfolio is ready to perform at 100% when called upon.

  • Be the eyes, ears, and voice on market design. Work directly with MISO and other RTO/ISO staff to track and give feedback on evolving market rules; translate what's changing into clear implications for customers, Product, and the rest of the Voltus team.

  • Build and maintain external relationships. Develop and sustain relationships with MISO staff, utility representatives, and DER/technology partners; use those relationships to move things forward for Voltus and represent us well externally.

  • Manage and develop people. Directly manage a small team, delegate effectively, coach, and grow their skills while staying close enough to the work to unblock them.

  • Lead cross-functionally. Act as a general project manager across Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations. Your goal is to bring groups together, driving decisions, and keeping initiatives on track without waiting for someone else to own it.

  • Prioritize ruthlessly and adaptively. Know when something needs to happen now versus when it can wait, and be willing to change course quickly as market conditions or priorities shift.

  • Grow the portfolio by guiding our regional sales strategy, directly supporting new VIP sales, and onboarding new asset types and programs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in energy markets, demand response, or a closely related field.

  • A track record of effectively managing a team.

  • A natural relationship-builder with real charisma. You build trust quickly with internal and external teams, communicating effectively in both directions.

  • Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills. Preference for experience with SQL and/or Python.

  • Excellent cross-functional project management instincts. You can coordinate across teams, delegate effectively, and drive ambiguous initiatives to resolution.

  • Gritty. You've done hard things, and you're not afraid to put in the work. You’re energized by ambiguity and a fast-changing market landscape.

  • You don't need hands-on dispatch or ops management experience, we're prioritizing market and relationship instincts here.

  • Bonus experiences: managing or onboarding battery storage assets, experience working directly with an RTO/ISO (MISO experience a strong plus)

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool. This means we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.
