FloSports is the leading digital platform for underserved sports, combining live and on-demand streaming, original programming, data, and technology to help sports grow their audiences and build sustainable businesses, from youth to professional levels. By bringing thousands of events and communities onto one platform, Flo creates scale where none previously existed, connecting passionate fans with the sports they love while giving athletes, organizers, and rights holders the tools to reach and engage a global audience.

Flo streams more than 50,000 live events annually across sports, including motorsports, wrestling, hockey, track & field, cheer, jiu-jitsu, NCAA Division II and III athletics, and more. We’re looking for people who are passionate about sports, embody accountability, collaboration, curiosity, positivity, grit, and excellence, and are motivated to help grow and elevate the communities we serve.

THE ROLE:

You will play a key role in designing, building, and operating the live streaming platform at FloSports, delivering tens of thousands of live events every year to fans around the world. This is a role for a proven video specialist: we expect demonstrated, hands-on experience operating live broadcast video at scale in production, spanning contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery across many concurrent events. You'll own the backend services and APIs behind that pipeline end-to-end using Node.js/NestJS and/or Go, and you'll be accountable for keeping the full live signal chain reliable under real-world broadcast conditions, including redundancy and graceful failover. Experience with AWS Elemental Media Services is a strong plus.

As a senior member of the team, you will also participate in an on-call rotation to help ensure the reliability of our live streaming platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate, automate, and continuously improve the live broadcast video pipeline (contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery) for tens of thousands of events per year, with a focus on performance, scalability, and broadcast-grade reliability.

  • Monitor and safeguard stream health and viewer quality of experience (QoE) at scale, building the tooling and alerting needed to catch issues before they reach audiences.

  • Design and implement data models and queries for SQL databases.

  • Build and maintain backend microservices using Node.js/NestJS and/or Go.

  • Write and execute unit and integration tests using tools like Jest, and Vitest to ensure high code quality.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, following best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, and other stakeholders to define and deliver new features.

  • Diagnose and resolve live broadcast and streaming pipeline issues in real time, including during live events, and drive lasting improvements to redundancy and failover.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating live broadcast video at scale in production, including multi-event, multi-channel contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery.

  • Deep understanding of the live broadcast signal chain, including redundancy, failover, and graceful degradation under real-world live conditions.

  • Hands-on experience with live streaming transport protocols (SRT, RTMP, Zixi, WebRTC) and how they integrate with media pipelines.

  • Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js and/or Go, including a deep understanding of language features and design patterns.

  • Experience working with SQL databases.

  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.

  • Familiarity with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience writing and executing unit tests and integration tests using Jest, and Vitest.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into deployment workflows.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS (EC2, Lambda, S3, etc.).

  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

BONUS POINTS:

  • Experience with tools like AWS Elemental and/or video encoding tools such as OBS, and vMix.

  • Experience with NoSQL solutions like Firebase/Firestore.

  • Experience with messaging solutions such as SNS/SQS, MQTT, Kafka, and Pubsub.

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Knowledge of security best practices for API development and data handling.

  • Experience working in Agile development environments.

  • Previous experience with end-to-end (E2E) testing frameworks.
