Who We Are

Imprint is reimagining co-branded credit cards & financial products to be smarter, more rewarding, and truly brand-first. We partner with companies like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, Fetch, and Brooks Brothers to launch modern credit programs that deepen loyalty, unlock savings, and drive growth. Our platform combines advanced payments infrastructure, intelligent underwriting, and seamless UX to help brands offer powerful financial products—without becoming a bank.

Co-branded cards account for over $300 billion in U.S. annual spend—but most are still powered by legacy banks. Imprint is the modern alternative: flexible, tech-forward, and built for today’s consumer. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, and Khosla Ventures, we’re building a world-class team to redefine how people pay—and how brands grow. If you want to work fast, solve hard problems, and make a real impact, we’d love to meet you.

The Team

We’re seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead our Payments Engineering team, building reliable, secure, and scalable systems that power all of our payment experiences. This team owns the platform for processing payments across various instruments, forming the financial backbone of our customer and partner interactions.

In this role, you’ll grow and support a team of backend engineers, set technical direction, and work cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, Finance, and Risk to deliver seamless, compliant payment experiences across our three delivery models: Imprint-owned apps, embedded SDKs, and direct API integrations.

What You'll Do

As the engineering manager of this team, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Technical Leadership and Oversight

    • Set and execute on the technical vision and roadmap for payments, balancing speed, scale, and compliance.

    • Collaborate closely with product managers and stakeholders to shape user-facing and partner-facing payment flows.

    • Own delivery of projects end-to-end, ensuring high engineering quality, availability, and security of critical payment services.

    • Drive a culture of accountability, trust, and continuous improvement within your team.

    • Contribute to architectural decisions and ensure alignment with broader platform strategy.

    • Partner with other Engineering Managers and Tech Leads to improve engineering velocity, reduce dependencies, and raise the bar for technical excellence

  • Team Management and Development

    • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers and developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

    • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to track progress, address concerns, and support career development.

    • Coordinate with HR for hiring and training new team members, ensuring a match between the team's skill set and project requirements.

  • Project Management

    • Plan and manage the execution of projects, ensuring timely delivery within the allocated budget.

    • Utilize agile methodologies to monitor progress, facilitate daily stand-ups, and lead sprint planning sessions.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, finance, and compliance, to align project objectives and deliverables.

  • Stakeholder Communication

    • Regularly communicate with senior management and other stakeholders to report on project status, risks, and opportunities.

    • Gather feedback from internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve the platform’s functionality and user experience.

    • Represent the team in inter-departmental meetings, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategic goals.

  • Quality Assurance and Risk Management

    • Ensure adherence to high-quality coding and documentation standards.

    • Oversee the implementation of robust testing strategies to identify and mitigate risks early in the development cycle.

    • Collaborate with the security engineering team to prioritize and resolve any security vulnerabilities and compliance issues related to the payment services

  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement

    • Encourage a culture of innovation within the team, promoting experimentation and learning.

    • Stay informed about industry trends and competitor products to identify opportunities for platform enhancement.

    • Lead efforts in streamlining processes and implementing best practices to increase efficiency and productivity.

What We Look For
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in engineering management with a hands-on backend development background.

  • Deep experience designing, building, and operating production-grade financial or payments systems (e.g., ACH, debit payments, bill pay, checks).

  • Proven leadership in system architecture and design—covering reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Strong foundation in building financial platforms, ideally with close collaboration alongside operations, compliance, and risk functions.

  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on platform engineering, integrations, or automation.

  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies and modern engineering best practices.

  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and a bias for action.

  • Bonus: Experience building API-first products with APIs treated as first-class citizens.

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation and equity packages

  • Leading configured work computers of your choice

  • Flexible paid time off

  • Fully covered, high-quality healthcare, including fully covered dependent coverage

  • Additional health coverage includes access to One Medical and the option to enroll in an FSA

  • 20 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary caregiver and 8 weeks for all new parents

  • Access to industry-leading technology across all of our business units, stemming from our philosophy that we should invest in resources for our team that foster innovation, optimization, and productivity
