About The Role
You will lead a team at the center of how Color delivers care at scale. As a Senior Engineering Manager on Care Operations, you will shape the systems that power our clinicians and care teams — enabling high-quality, accessible healthcare for millions of people.This is a high-ownership role. You will define technical direction, drive execution across complex workflows, and help evolve our care delivery platform in a fast-moving, startup environment. Your work will directly influence how quickly we can launch new programs, integrate AI into care operations, and improve patient experience.If you’re motivated by building systems that matter — and doing it in a pragmatic, high-autonomy environment — this role is for you!
How You'll Contribute:
- Lead and grow a team of engineers, setting clear direction and creating a culture of ownership and accountability
- Define and evolve the architecture of our care operations platform to support scale, reliability, and rapid iteration
- Partner closely with product, clinical, data, and operations leaders to translate complex healthcare workflows into simple, high-leverage systems
- Drive pragmatic adoption of AI and automation to increase care team efficiency and unlock new capabilities
- Balance speed and durability in a regulated environment, making thoughtful tradeoffs that support long-term scalability
- Develop senior engineers into technical leaders through structured feedback, coaching, and delegation of meaningful ownership
- Improve system observability, quality, and operational excellence so internal teams can depend on our tools every day
- Contribute to broader engineering strategy, prioritization, and cross-team alignment as a senior engineering leader
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- 8+ years of experience building and shipping production systems in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
- 3+ years of experience managing engineers, including senior engineers and/or multiple teams
- Experience operating in startup or high-growth environments where leaders are expected to define strategy and execute
- A track record of delivering cross-functional initiatives from concept through iteration
- Strong technical judgment across backend systems, APIs, and frontend applications (experience with Python/Django, React, AWS, and SQL is a plus)
- Experience introducing AI-enabled tooling or workflow automation into production systems
- Demonstrated success developing engineers through direct feedback, growth planning, and sponsorship
- Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical partners
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with EHR applications
- Experience integrating LLM based features into tools teams owned to automate tasks and unlock efficiencies
- Experience integrating with 3rd party systems
Possible Projects to Contribute to:
- Redesign and scale our patient messaging platform to support personalized, AI-augmented care journeys
- Embed AI-driven automation into care workflows to significantly increase care team capacity without sacrificing quality
- Evolve our headless EHR layer into a flexible, extensible platform that accelerates new care programs
