Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Our Driver may be autonomous, but Waymo's finances are steered by experts like you. The Finance and Accounting group manages all aspects of our finances and serves as trusted advisors for all our strategic and enterprise endeavors. Along with managing compilation of our financial statements, looking after our cash and overseeing compliance, we partner closely with the business in overseeing company wide resource allocation, developing cutting edge compensation initiatives and generating detailed financial analyses to drive the business forward. We also develop advanced capital strategies to support the company's short- and long-term future.

In this hybrid role, you will report to the Head of Business Finance.

You will:

  • Manage team budget, and closely track key investment areas by having consistent meeting cadences/reviews with cross functional teams
  • Monitor usage of Engineering resources to identify spend anomalies and optimize compute "unit economics"
  • Communicate spend snapshot and escalate risks/opportunities in a timely manner
  • Support and own aspects of Annual Plan, Long Term Plan, Monthly Forecast and Month-End close processes
    • Assist in the deal review process, providing financial support and analysis of investment justification

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, MIS, or Business Analytics
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Strategic Finance, or Investment Banking, with specific experience in technology or data center environments
  • Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling and analysis (e.g., Excel/Google Sheets)
  • Proven experience managing Opex and Capex budgeting, forecasting, and actuals analysis
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS), especially related to capitalization accounting
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with non-finance stakeholders across cross functional teams
  • Deep knowledge of the R&D lifecycle, including technical software infrastructure and hardware development cycles

We prefer:

  • Experience directly supporting software engineering, machine learning, or data center infrastructure in a high-growth tech environment
  • Prior exposure to autonomous driving, robotics, or aerospace, providing a baseline understanding of long-tail R&D cycles and complex hardware-software integration
  • Proven ability to build complex, dynamic financial models or dashboards from the ground up that have been used to inform strategic business decisions
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot systemic data issues
  • An MBA or CFA
