Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack

Compensation: $200K - $250K • 0.10% - 0.40% equity Location: Palo Alto, CA, US Job type: Full-time Role: Engineering, Full stack Experience: 3+ years Visa: US citizen/visa only Skills: Amazon Web Services (AWS), React, TypeScript, LLMs, LangChain

About the role

Our client is looking for a fantastic, high-agency software engineer to join their team and push them forward.

Our client is transforming product and R&D innovation across a large physical-goods industry and beyond. They use their own machine learning tools, modern LLMs, and traditional software and data models to build product experiences that users can trust and rely on while inventing the products of tomorrow. You'll work directly with the founder, domain experts, technical specialists, and their customers to define and build their platform.

What you'll do
  • Engage deeply with real-world problems and own the complete lifecycle of creating novel, differentiating solutions.

  • Talk directly to customers. They want their best problem solvers as close to the users as possible.

  • Support and continue to build out their backend traditional compute architecture (React, TypeScript, Bun, Elysia) as well as their agentic infrastructure (LangChain-based).

  • Help expand the horizons of what's possible by combining machine learning, agentic AI, and traditional software approaches to solve problems no one approach can handle.

  • Within 15 days: own implementation of a small feature. Within 30 days: own end-to-end a major improvement to their agentic toolkit that makes product innovation better. Within 45 days: invent and deliver something you created based on your conversations with their users, internal experts, and customers.

  • Work directly with the founder on problems that shape the whole product.

A good fit likely has
  • An aptitude for problem-solving and learning. They don't care exactly what you've done before; they care that you can go all-in and accomplish anything you set your mind to.

  • 3+ years of software experience building real products/tools that people actually use. They're trusting you to build a good nucleus!

  • Proven high-ownership mindset: ability to work independently and be self-motivated, e.g. former founders or those that took extreme ownership in startups.

  • An attitude of getting the most out of AI coding tools - not just as a speed multiplier for coding, but as a backbone for rethinking processes, revolutionizing work roles, and achieving the impossible.

  • Excellent communication and candor. You'll be directly communicating with customers, users, engineers, domain experts, etc.

It's a bonus if you have
  • Experience or education in scientific computing, machine learning, data visualization and analytics, domain-specific tools, or similar.

  • Experience interfacing with end users/customers.

  • DevOps knowledge.

  • UX and/or product experience. You'll be building things non-technical users touch, use, and rely on every day.

  • You're a previous founder or founding engineer. You have built something from scratch that people use or pay for.

  • You're unusually obsessed with hard problems. Your current skills or even what you've done before are less important than your ability to go all-in and accomplish anything that you set your mind to.

About the company
  • They are backed by a well-known startup accelerator, a top-tier VC firm, and elite angel investors.

  • Their core platform can't be killed by the next release of ChatGPT.

  • They are a small, elite team that is breaking new ground in how engineering work can be done and how problems can be solved.

  • They operate with a high agency, high-speed culture: they trust you, and want you to build great things fast.

Why this matters

The physical products people use every day are formulated by experts balancing performance, cost, safety, and other constraints all at once. That work is consequential, done by highly capable specialists, but the tools supporting it haven't kept up. Our client works alongside these domain experts to build the systems they've never had, so their expertise goes further and faster on the products people rely on daily. Their current focus is one such industry, but the mission is bigger: making the products people use and consume better, for the people doing the work and everyone who lives with the result.

Why this is hard (and interesting)
  • You are building a product experience that translates ambiguous, highly complex, subjective expertise and physical chemistry needs into a solution for users who never had better tools than spreadsheets.

  • This requires going far beyond traditional statistical methods and basic LLM calls. You will own the end-to-end development of AI-powered features across the backend, frontend, and deployment layers. You will build on their proprietary ML algorithms, LLMs, internal embeddings, and structured data models to create product experiences that users actually trust.

  • This is a zero-to-one build. You will ideate, plan, and deliver software that consistently exceeds customer expectations. You will collaborate tightly with their ML team to ensure outputs are not just mathematically accurate, but practically trustworthy in a lab.

Benefits
  • Learning and knowledge stipend

  • One of the top 5% of 401(k) plans among US companies

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Equity: 0.10% to 0.40%

This position is in person in Palo Alto, CA.
