Your mission

We’re transitioning hundreds of employees in Costa Rica from EOR to a fully owned local entity. This is a high-impact operational shift. If payroll, benefits, or compliance obligations are wrong or missed, employees will feel it immediately. Your role will be to own the execution and integrity of this system — keeping it running cleanly, compliantly, and at scale.

You’ll go from cleaning and validating payroll inputs to owning statutory compliance, to shaping how we operate locally as we scale, with the potential to grow into leading all People Operations & HR in the region.

What you will work on
  • Own pre-hire compliance requirements, including right to work checks, documentation, and contract readiness, ensuring employees are correctly set up before day 1

  • Handle new joiner, leaver, and employment change transactions – generating contracts, amendments, employment verifications, salary certificates, and formal notices

  • Prepare, validate, and submit payroll inputs, including salary, incentives, deductions, and adjustments

  • Coordinate operational workflows across vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure payroll, benefits, and compliance processes run accurately and on schedule

  • Own monthly cutoffs, approvals, and reconciliations, ensuring dependencies are tracked and resolved proactively

  • Own enrolment, changes, and issue resolution for private healthcare and statutory benefits

  • Manage leave processes, including statutory and company leave, ensuring alignment across policy, systems, and payroll outputs

  • Be the go-to person for employee queries on employment terms, payslips, taxes, and benefits, resolving issues with clarity and confidence

  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes and implement them proactively, ensuring our practices are compliant with CCSS, MTSS, DGT, and INS

  • Support audits, filings, and statutory reporting for Costa Rica

  • Maintain clean, structured employee data across HRIS and payroll systems

What success looks like
  • Payroll runs accurately and on time without last-minute corrections

  • Compliance risks are identified and resolved before they become liabilities

  • Employee queries are handled quickly, clearly, and correctly

  • Data across systems is clean, consistent, and audit-ready

  • Employee lifecycle operations run smoothly without constant escalation

What you will bring
  • Background in HR services roles, with a solid understanding of cooridnating employee lifecycle operations, legal compliance and payroll

  • Working knowledge of labor law and employment practices in Costa Rica, and the ability to apply these in practice

  • Hands-on experience with contracts, time & attendance and benefits management, including how they impact payroll and compliance

  • Familiarity with complex, multi-entity environments across North, South America, and EMEA

  • Experience working through audits and actively supporting statutory reporting

  • Execution depth. You are comfortable doing detailed, repetitive work such as data input, audits, and reconciliation, and you consistently catch issues others miss

  • Proven ability to operate without full structure, interpreting requirements and building practical, fit-for-purpose processes as you go
