The Senior Legal AI Specialist is a strategic expert focused on bridging the gap between sophisticated legal strategy and AI-driven execution. As a member of the Professional Services team, this role acts as the primary post-sales consultant for "AI-Ready" legal workflows and playbooks, specifically focused on the adoption and optimization of Jurist, Ironclad’s AI redlining agent. As a Senior Legal AI Specialist, you will transform subjective legal nuances into structured logic, ensuring customers achieve measurable efficiency gains and precise risk management.

At this time, we are only hiring for this role out of our San Francisco or New York City offices and are not able to offer remote or other hub locations.

Key Skills:
  • Educational Background: Juris Doctor (JD) degree is required to ensure empathy and shared vocabulary with our core persona.

  • Commercial Expertise: 3–5+ years of experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts (MSAs, SOWs, SaaS agreements). You should understand market-standard positions and fallbacks instinctively.

  • Systems Thinking: The ability to deconstruct complex legal "unwritten rules" into structured logic and data-driven guidelines that AI can interpret.

  • Strategic Advisory: Experience facilitating workshops or high-stakes consultations; comfortable translating a customer’s risk tolerance into product configurations.

  • AI Knowledge: Ability to explain, in plain language, what an LLM is and does to a non-technical lawyer. You don’t need to build models or talk to engineers about architecture, but you understand core concepts well enough to make them legible to legal stakeholders.

  • AI Wisdom: A grounded understanding of what AI can and can’t do in practice. You eagerly probe the edges of the technology, critically examine outputs, and can anticipate where AI is likely to fail or introduce risk in a legal context.

  • Prompting Expertise: Experience diagnosing why an AI interaction went wrong and iterating on prompts to get better results, particularly in contracting scenarios. You can quickly spot issues in user prompts and coach others toward clearer, more effective instructions.

  • Tinkerer Mindset: You like being on the cutting edge. You actively experiment with AI tools—inside and outside of work—to see what they can do, discover new use cases, and bring back patterns that can be standardized for customers.

  • Technical Curiosity: While you won't write code, you have sustained interest in AI technology and a desire to define the future of the AI CLM landscape.

  • Communication & Influence: Ability to manage sensitive legal-stakeholder conversations and translate "legal-speak" into actionable requirements for Product and Engineering teams.

  • Operational Rigor: A builder mindset. You don't just solve for one customer; you look for patterns to create repeatable frameworks and standardized assets.

  • Guardrail Awareness: Ability to provide industry benchmarks and "legal information" with high integrity, clearly navigating the line between technical consulting and legal advice.

  • Values Alignment: Someone who embodies Ironclad’s Values: Drive, Intent, Integrity, and Empathy.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Operationalize legal risk: Guide customers in moving from subjective instructions to precise, data-driven playbooks and pre-approved clause libraries that maximize AI performance and accuracy.

  • Spearhead a new line of Services: Lead the development and delivery of a new service offering focused on customers without existing playbooks. You will be the primary architect for turning customer organizational knowledge into structured AI-ready playbooks.

  • Scale AI-ready frameworks: Develop and refine the "Ironclad Standard" for AI implementation. You will create the playbooks, assets, and best practices that enable our CS and Professional Services teams to scale across the globe.

  • Bridge legal & technical intent: Partner closely with the Legal Engineering (LE) team to ensure that legal intent is perfectly translated into technical workflow execution.

  • Advance customer maturity: Help customers move from manual redlining to AI-augmented negotiation, ensuring they hit adoption milestones and achieve long-term ROI. This includes coaching customers on effective prompting patterns and how to safely push the boundaries of AI in their legal workflows.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with Product, Engineering, and Ironclad’s own Legal team to align product functionality with the real-world requirements of high-volume legal departments and to inform AI roadmap decisions with practitioner-driven feedback.

  • Drive Partner & Internal Enablement: Act as the primary enabler for our internal teams and external partner ecosystem. You will develop the training and certification materials required to scale playbook development services through third-party partners.

  • Be the voice of the practitioner: Advocate for the needs of the legal user, ensuring product enhancements and AI training reflect the nuances of sophisticated commercial practice and real-world prompting behaviors.

  • Position future value: Stay ahead of the AI curve, helping customers envision how upcoming capabilities will further transform their legal operations and contracting velocity.
