The opportunity
Private markets hold some of the most valuable and innovative companies in the world, yet trading their equity still runs on email chains, PDFs and wire instructions. We believe that with the right infrastructure, private markets can become the biggest market in the world. Augment is building that infrastructure, end to end, to be the simplest experience for buying and selling shares in private companies.
As one of our core commercial and product lawyers, you'll own Augment's commercial contracting and be the person teams call when something touches a new product, corporate structure, an employee issue or a subpoena. You'll shape how that work gets done, build the playbooks behind it and help grow our legal team.
About Augment
Accredited and institutional investors use Augment to buy and sell shares in some of the world's most sought after private companies, including Perplexity, Kalshi, SpaceX (now public), and Glean. Augment was founded in 2022 with headquarters in Austin and an office in NYC.
We're growing fast:
· Raised $16.5M to date from investors including Builders VC, Neo, Golden Section, E1 Ventures and OPCO Ventures
· Profitable 50+ person team and growing, with an eight-figure annual revenue run rate, targeting 9 figures in 2027
· More than $2B in assets under management

The Role
We're hiring a Senior Legal Counsel to own the commercial, product and corporate legal work that keeps Augment running and growing. You'll report directly to our Head of Legal and work across product, engineering, operations, compliance and people teams.
Most of your time will go to commercial contracting, from intake through negotiation and signature. You'll also serve as product counsel, handle corporate governance and entity matters, advise on employment matters alongside HR, review and sign off on subpoena responses with Compliance and manage litigation.
You'll cover the full range of this work, from day-to-day NDAs, customer and vendor contracts and contract intake to higher-stakes product, governance and employment matters. If you'd rather build a practice than inherit one, this is the seat.
🧑💻 You Will:
Own commercial contracting and build legal infrastructure
· Own Augment's commercial contracts end to end, including NDAs, customer and vendor agreements, non-standard terms and contract disputes, and share NCNDA work with Augment's deal lawyers
· Run contract intake and tracking so the business gets fast, consistent answers
· Build templates, playbooks and intake workflows so legal scales with the company. Augment is a software company, so you'll have engineers and product teams to help build what you design
Own corporate governance and entity matters
· Advise Finance and Compliance on legal questions related to entity good standing, registrations, filings and records
· Keep entity separateness, intercompany arrangements and governance practices clean across Augment's operating and regulated entities
Serve as platform product counsel
· Partner with product, engineering and operations to launch new platform and app features, such as account experiences, cash accounts and data products, from early design through release
· Own platform terms of use, privacy and user-facing product disclosures and flows, working with Compliance on regulatory questions and supporting Compliance’s marketing review when legal input is needed
· Turn legal risk into clear, practical guidance that non-lawyers can act on
· Coordinate with Augment's deal lawyers, who lead product counsel work on investment features, fund structures, offering documents and settlement mechanics
Advise on employment matters alongside HR
· Partner with HR on employee matters, from offer letters, policies and multi-state questions to investigations, performance matters, separations and accommodations
· Manage employment claims and work with outside employment counsel when needed
· Help HR shape policies and practices for a remote team working across multiple states
Manage litigation and subpoena responses
· Manage disputes, threatened claims and litigation, including outside counsel strategy, budgets and results
· Review and sign off on subpoena and legal process responses with Compliance
🧠 You'd Fit in Well If:
· You're a generalist who enjoys moving between commercial contracts, product, governance, employment and disputes in the same week
· You want to own outcomes, not just review someone else's work
· You're comfortable doing hands-on work while building processes as you go, with lean resources
· You have strong judgment on people issues and handle sensitive matters with discretion
· You can explain legal risk plainly and give business teams a clear path forward
· You're excited by businesses that combine software, financial infrastructure and regulated operations
· You stay responsive, organized and calm when several priorities land at once
💡 Why Augment
· Upside. Meaningful equity in a venture-backed company that's already operating at scale, in a market we believe is just getting started.
· Ownership. You'll shape how Augment handles commercial contracting, product review, governance, employment and disputes.
· Scope. Commercial, product, corporate, employment and disputes work in one seat. Few in-house roles touch this much of a regulated financial business.
· Career path. You'll help build the legal team from the ground up, with room to grow into broader leadership as legal scales.
· Flexibility. We're remote-first, with Austin or New York preferred, and unlimited PTO.
· Timing. Private market secondaries are becoming core financial infrastructure. You'll help build the company defining how that market works.
👨🔧 Qualifications
Required
· JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
· 4–7 years of experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm, in-house or both, with meaningful experience in commercial and corporate work and in regulatory or litigation matters
· Significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including NDAs, customer agreements and vendor agreements, with the ability to manage high volume
· Hands-on experience with corporate governance and entity management
· Experience advising on employment matters alongside HR, including sensitive issues
· Experience managing litigation, disputes or regulatory inquiries, including supervising outside counsel
· Excellent drafting skills, with strong attention to detail and commercial judgment
· Ability to manage a broad workload and make practical calls quickly
Bonus
· In-house experience at a fintech, financial services or other regulated technology company
· Product counsel experience, including user terms, disclosures and product launches
· Familiarity with broker-dealer or investment adviser regulatory environments
· Experience with subpoenas, legal process or regulatory document requests
🏄♂️ Benefits
· Meaningful equity in a profitable, high-growth company
· 100% employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage for employees
· Unlimited PTO
· Remote, with Austin or New York preferred
The U.S. base salary for this role is $145,000 to $190,000 a year, depending on level, experience and demonstrated responsibility, plus equity. Total compensation may also include other components or benefits, depending on the role.
Why This Role Matters
Augment is growing fast, and every new contract, product, entity, hire and dispute needs a steady legal hand. You'll build the commercial and product legal foundation that lets Augment scale responsibly, protects our users and team, and supports how private markets operate.
