As a Senior Manager of Ads, Revenue & Commerce Policy, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the policies that govern our revenue products — from advertising and Nitro subscriptions to creator revenue, app monetization, and our Developer Policy. You'll be the founding leader of the Ads, Revenue & Commerce Policy team, working at the intersection of business growth, user safety, and brand safety.

In this role, you'll develop content and product policies that enable Discord's revenue initiatives whilst protecting our users and brand. You'll translate complex regulatory requirements and industry standards into practical, scalable policies. You'll advise product teams on safety risk, helping them build with safety by design from the start. You'll manage and mentor policy experts with varying levels of experience, helping them grow whilst delivering high-quality policy work. And you'll partner across Legal, Trust & Safety, Product, Revenue, Sales, and Business Partnerships to ensure our commercial products reflect Discord's commitment to user wellbeing.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage and develop a team of policy experts with various experience levels, providing mentorship, strategic direction, and support for their professional growth
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive content and product policies for Discord's revenue products, including advertising (Quests, Video Quests), Nitro subscriptions, creator monetisation, app monetisation, Developer Policy, and emerging commercial initiatives
  • Serve as the primary policy advisor to revenue product leaders and developers, providing guidance on safety risk assessment, policy implications, and compliance requirements throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Translate regulatory requirements (such as advertising standards, consumer protection laws, and platform integrity regulations) into actionable policy frameworks and operational guidance
  • Collaborate with Trust & Safety to create clear, enforceable policy criteria and decision frameworks that scale across our global moderation workflows
  • Partner with Legal to ensure policies align with regulatory obligations whilst enabling business objectives
  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Revenue, Sales, and Business Partnership teams to identify policy gaps, evaluate product changes, and balance user safety with product innovation
  • Create external-facing policy documentation and user-facing communications that explain our commercial policies in Discord's authentic voice
  • Monitor industry trends, peer company approaches, and emerging regulatory developments in online advertising, creator economies, and platform monetisation
  • Lead policy reviews and risk assessments for new revenue product launches, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership
  • Represent Discord externally to business partners, advertisers, and other external stakeholders

What you should have

  • 7+ years of experience in trust and safety, content policy, product policy, or advertising policy roles at technology platforms, ads tech, communication services, or online marketplaces
  • 2+ years of experience managing policy professionals, with a track record of developing talent and building high-performing teams
  • Deep knowledge of advertising policies and industry standards (e.g., IAB guidelines, platform advertising policies, brand safety frameworks)
  • Experience advising product teams on policy implications and conducting risk assessments for new product features
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, enforceable policies that balance user protection, business needs, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong understanding of platform integrity issues, including fraud, scams, and other harmful content in commercial contexts
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations such as consumer protection laws, advertising standards, children's safety regulations, and platform transparency requirements
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence without authority and build consensus across Legal, Product, Trust & Safety, Revenue, Sales, and Business Partnership teams
  • Experience creating scalable operational guidance and training materials for content moderation teams
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex policy issues into executive briefs and user-facing documentation
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data and user research to inform policy decisions

This position is US-based and can be remote but if you live in the Bay Area, you’re welcome to work from our beautiful SF office. 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $232,000 to $261,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
