The Opportunity

Within Genentech's Research and Early Development (gRED) Portfolio Strategy and Planning team, you will be a strategic partner to help gRED navigate the future and develop novel therapeutics for patients. The position provides a unique opportunity to impact R&D from research through Phase II across multiple therapeutic areas.  You will interact with senior stakeholders from the Research, Clinical, Development Sciences, Regulatory and Commercial organizations. 

An ideal candidate has a background that can combine principles from science, strategy, and business motivated by an opportunity to create lifesaving therapeutics for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • R&D Strategy: Assist in the creation of portfolio-wide insights for molecule specific drug development, portfolio throughput, timelines and milestones, risk assessments, R&D productivity, and innovation strategies.

  • Analytics: Work collaboratively to develop portfolio insights to guide near and long-term planning by senior leadership. Work with project leaders to develop recommendations in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders to translate strategy into tactics and execution. 

  • Reporting: Support internal data generation and external data acquisition efforts to improve analytics. 

  • Competitive Insights: Work collaboratively to synthesize insights from major competitors for the gRED senior leadership team to potentially implement in our own R&D practices.

  • Molecule Team Strategy: Strategic advisor to the project team leader of gRED molecules. Frame / assess clinical development options from IND to Phase 2, identify critical factors for decision making and present risk assessments by clinical phase.

The ideal candidate has the ability to tackle complex high-level problems and develop cohesive strategic frameworks while utilizing analytical/logic based skills to drive decisions and catalyze action throughout the organization.

  • Strategy: Skilled at distilling complex/abstract problems into succinct strategic frameworks and tactical plans

  • Analytics: Strong analytical skills, quantitative modeling and complex problem-solving

  • Influence: Ability to influence to the Director level in Research, Development and Commercial functions through active listening, communication and facilitation

  • Communication: Clearly articulate critical analytical findings to senior leadership and drug development teams

  • Facilitate: Facilitate discussions with gRED leaders, cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to work together to develop insights and align on strategic decisions.

  • Servant Leader: Looks for ways to be a force multiplier within the organization. Excellent partner, finds a way to elevate others.

Who you are

  • You have a passion for drug development, life sciences and our patient centric mission

  • Education requirements: Scientific (PhD/MD), Quantitative (masters in mathematics/statistics, engineering), and/or Business (MBA)

  • You have a strong background knowledge in the biotech R&D environment:

    • Sr. Manager: Minimum 2-5 years work experience post-advanced degree

    • Principal Manager: Minimum 5-7 years work experience post-advanced degree

  • You have experience in one of the following (or a related discipline): management consulting, market research, market planning, investment banking, competitive intelligence, business development, R&D drug development, data science, public health, health economics, statistics or a related field.

  • You have demonstrated experience in analytical, planning and organizational skills required from previous work

  • Personal integrity and aptitude for working collaboratively 

Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is (Senior Manager $117,500 - 218,100) (Principal Manager $141,200 - 262,200). Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
