About the Role

Chime is seeking a Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs to join our Legal and Compliance function. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and sound judgment to foster strong regulatory relationships, manage examinations effectively, and ensure our compliance framework scales with Chime’s continued growth.  You will also be responsible for managing a team, developing their professional expertise, and ensuring high-quality execution across all regulatory activities.  This is a high-impact role that supports our mission to serve millions of members by expanding access to financial products in a responsible, compliant way.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $146,610 and up to $207,700. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Lead regulatory and bank examination processes from planning through response and remediation, in coordination with Legal, Finance, Product, Marketing, Bank Partnerships, Corporate Affairs, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and maintain Chime’s regulatory engagement strategy, aligning with key business objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Manage and mentor a team, providing ongoing coaching, skills development, and performance management to strengthen regulatory expertise and operational execution.
  • Oversee all Chime and partner bank regulatory inquiries, ensuring timely, complete, and accurate responses.
  • Establish and evolve best practices for examination and inspection readiness, including tools and internal protocols.
  • Drive licensing strategy and execution, including application, renewal, maintenance, and expansion of state and federal licenses (e.g., lending, money transmission).
Stay current on regulatory changes and industry developments, proactively adjusting strategies to support compliance and future growth.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Compliance, Legal, Risk, and Corporate Affairs to address emerging trends and advocate for Chime’s regulatory positions.
  • Represent Chime as the senior point of contact for regulatory agencies and bank partners during inquiries, audits, and examinations.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • Deep knowledge of consumer banking laws and regulations, including those related to payments, money transmission, and credit activities and services.
  • Experience managing regulatory oversight from the OCC, FFIEC, and state regulators in the context of consumer financial services.
A track record of successfully navigating regulatory examinations and audits, with strong cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience with maintaining state licenses in good standing, as well as supporting federal registrations (e.g., FinCEN).
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus and lead through influence.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to escalate concerns appropriately and timely.
  • Adaptability in fast-paced, high-growth environments and comfort working through ambiguity.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, ideally within a financial services or fintech company, with direct responsibility for regulatory relationships, audits, and licensing matters and managing teams.
  • Bonus: Prior experience at a high-growth fintech startup is highly desirable.
