Catalog Operations sits within the larger Merchandising Operations group, which is responsible for creating the systems, services, and process infrastructure that support all Chewy businesses. The team's mission is to be the backbone for Chewy's Business and Category teams, helping drive long-term customer trust, business growth, and profitability. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of information systems knowledge, merchandising business process expertise, data analysis capability, and a forward-looking mindset toward automation and AI-enabled process improvement. This person will play a key role in owning and improving catalog data completeness across Chewy's item-level data, ensuring that our catalog is accurate, complete, usable, and optimized to support customer discovery, product detail page quality, business decision-making, and operational scale.
This role requires someone who is innovative, diligent, and deeply ownership-oriented. The ideal candidate is curious, capable of deep-diving complex data and process issues, and motivated to identify where AI, automation, and improved tooling can create meaningful operational leverage. They should be an advocate for responsible AI adoption, actively seeking opportunities to use emerging tools to improve quality, speed, visibility, and scalability across Catalog Operations.
What You'll Do
  • Own and improve catalog data completeness across assigned areas of the Chewy catalog, ensuring item-level data is accurate, complete, consistent, and usable for customer-facing experiences, internal operations, and business decision-making.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert independently overseeing a specific body of work or process across 1-2 high-visibility, high-complexity areas.
  • Execute work within assigned areas, identify and eliminate risks, issues, defects, and process gaps, and create mechanisms to monitor data quality, completeness, and operational performance.
  • Use data analysis to identify catalog completeness gaps, root causes, business impact, and opportunities to improve customer discovery, PDP quality, operational efficiency, and category team outcomes.
  • Champion the use of AI, automation, and scalable tooling to improve Catalog Operations processes, reduce manual work, increase quality, and accelerate decision-making.
  • Partner with technical teams to drive systems improvements, AI-enabled workflows, automation opportunities, and elegant analytical tools with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Develop standard operating procedures, process documentation, reporting mechanisms, and governance routines that improve consistency, scalability, and accountability.
  • Communicate metrics, data insights, completeness trends, AI-enabled opportunities, and business impact to leaders in a way that informs prioritization and decision-making.
  • Synthesize large quantities of complex data into usable, actionable insights for business, operations, product, and technical stakeholders.
  • Support ad hoc projects and initiatives involving Catalog systems, content quality, data completeness, process automation, and operational improvement.
  • Educate and partner with cross-functional stakeholders, including Business, Category, Product, Engineering, Vendor Systems, and Operations teams.
  • Mentor junior team members and contractors when needed.

What You'll Need
  • BA in Economics, Finance, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • 2-3+ years of experience in business systems, merchandising operations, catalog operations, data analytics, or a related subject-matter expert capacity.
  • Strong understanding of catalog data, item-level attributes, product content, operational workflows, data quality, or ERP/catalog systems.
  • Background in creating, managing, and improving metrics and KPIs using quantitative analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process inefficiencies and use automation, AI tools, or scalable mechanisms to improve quality, speed, and operational leverage.
  • Proficient in SQL.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Superior attention to detail and experience creating mechanisms to monitor data integrity, completeness, and operational performance.
  • Strong communication, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into summarized business terms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a driving passion to challenge, improve, and modernize current processes.
  • Curiosity and openness toward emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, and a willingness to test, learn, and responsibly apply them to improve business processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous environments with speed, ownership, and commitment to quality.
  • Position may require occasional travel.

Bonus
  • Relevant work experience using Python or R for data analytics.
  • Data visualization skills using Tableau or an equivalent data visualization tool.
  • Experience using AI tools, automation platforms, or machine learning-enabled workflows to improve operational processes, data quality, or analytical efficiency.
  • Prior experience with software quality processes and Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Prior experience with ERP, PIM, catalog management, or item master data systems.
  • E-commerce background is a plus.
