As a Senior Optimization Engineer, you will work at the intersection of advanced mathematics, software engineering, and power systems. You’ll design and implement optimization models that help utilities and market operators make smarter, faster decisions. Your work will directly impact how energy flows across regions, how markets operate efficiently, and how we accelerate the transition to clean energy.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Analyze customer requirements and propose technically sound solutions.

  • Design, develop, and test optimization applications for power systems and markets.

  • Integrate and document software solutions following best practices.

  • Support software releases and troubleshoot complex technical issues.

  • Research and apply advanced mathematical modeling and numerical methods.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and represent Hitachi Energy in customer meetings.

  • Contribute to improving software development processes and documentation.

  • Travel occasionally to support global customer projects.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electricity markets.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in optimization modeling tools and solvers (AMPL/AIMMS, CPLEX, Gurobi).

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with high-level programming languages.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience using Linux or AIX operating systems.

  • Minimum 2 years developing power system application software for electricity markets.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
