About CoLab

At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

We build AI for engineers designing cars, medical devices, and jet engines. Products this complex aren't sketched and sent to production. Teams spend months on iterations, reviews, and tests, predicting how every part performs before anything is built. CoLab is where those reviews happen, and we capture the rationale behind every change. Other tools show what changed between versions. Only CoLab knows why. That's how our AI helps manufacturers like Bobcat, Triumph Motorcycles, and GE Appliances make better decisions, eliminate rework cycles, and get to market faster.

Proudly based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, CoLab started with one customer in 2018. Since then we’ve raised a $72M Series C, been named the 57th fastest growing company in North America by Deloitte (Fast 500™), signed multi-year AI partnerships with companies like Bombardier, and grown to a team of 250+.

About the Role:

Mechanical engineering teams rely on a complex ecosystem of CAD, PLM, and enterprise systems to design, review, and manufacture products. At CoLab, we're building software that fits naturally into those workflows.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in making that possible. You'll build the integrations and platform capabilities that connect CoLab with the systems our customers use every day, helping engineering organizations review designs faster, collaborate more effectively, and make better decisions throughout the Mechanical Engineering Lifecycle.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys solving technically challenging integration problems. Ideally you’ve spent your career building desktop applications, web applications, CAD extensions, PLM customizations, or engineering workflow software. What matters most is that you enjoy understanding complex systems and finding elegant ways to connect them.

You'll work closely with Product, Design, Customer Success, and fellow engineers to translate real customer challenges into scalable software. One week you might be improving how CoLab integrates with a CAD application. The next, you could be investigating a complex customer workflow spanning PLM, ERP, and engineering data to eliminate friction for thousands of engineers.

The average software engineer may never have worked in Mechanical Engineering Lifecycle software. If you have—and you enjoy tackling difficult technical problems that have a direct impact on how world-class engineering organizations build products—you'll likely feel right at home here.

What you’ll do:
  • Interpret complex customer problems and work alongside Product, Design, and Engineering to build solutions that deliver measurable value for customers.
  • Design, build, and maintain customer-facing product capabilities across desktop and web technologies.
  • Develop integrations with leading CAD and PLM platforms, helping engineering teams work seamlessly within their existing Mechanical Engineering Lifecycle workflows.
  • Collaborate with teammates to design new product features based on customer requirements, product strategy, and UX designs.
  • Improve the tools, architecture, and development practices that enable the team to ship high-quality software quickly and reliably.
  • Participate in code reviews and help establish engineering best practices across the team.
  • Champion the user experience, with a focus on performance, usability, and reliability.
  • Contribute to product vision, technical direction, and roadmap discussions.
  • Mentor and support other developers through technical guidance and thoughtful feedback.
What you’ll need:
  • Professional software development experience working on production-level SaaS or desktop applications
  • Proficient with Java, C#, and/ or Python as well as object oriented languages.
  • Experience with version control, release management, and CI/CD workflows
  • Exposure to Javascript/Typescript, HTML and CSS is considered an asset
  • Experience with front-end build, package-management & testing tools such as Webpack, NPM, Jest, Cypress, etc would be considered an asset
  • Consistent track record of building and maintaining highly scalable products would be considered an asset
  • Passion for working in teams with emphasis on respect and continuous improvement
  • CAD integrations or engineering workflow software.
  • Mechanical Engineering Lifecycle (MEL) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
  • Mechanical revision management, design collaboration, or engineering change workflows.
  • Developing integrations between CAD, PLM, ERP, or other engineering systems.
  • Programming or extending platforms such as PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE/ENOVIA, Autodesk Vault, or similar enterprise engineering platforms.
  • Supporting CAD plugins, desktop extensions, or engineering productivity tools.
  • Reproducing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex PLM/CAD integration issues.
  • Working with engineering data including BOMs, part management, document management, access control, engineering change management, and PLM-CAD-ERP integration scenarios.
The extra details:
  • Compensation: This is a full-time, permanent position with an attractive compensation package that includes a stock options package.
  • Benefits: This role offers an extended health and benefits package that includes unlimited paid vacation and RRSP/401K matching.
  • Remote/Hybrid Work: This role has the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within Canada or the US
