About Rec

Think about the last time you tried to book a tennis court. Or sign your kid up for a swim lesson. Or find an open rec league that actually fits your schedule. You probably ended up on a website that looked like it was built in 2003 — or god forbid, filled out a piece of paper.

$3T is spent on recreation globally, and it's built on a completely fragmented system that's largely untouched by technology.

At Rec (recreation.ai), we're using AI to change that — reimagining how the world plays, participates in community, and gets active. Our vision is simple: more recreation for everyone. We sit at a rare intersection — a consumer product loved by everyday players and an enterprise platform trusted by the organizations that power recreation.

We're a small team with firepower. Our founders were among the first few hundred at Uber, then led teams at The Athletic and MasterClass. The rest of the team combines builders from Google, Microsoft, Strava, Hipcamp, and Airbnb.

People join Rec for two reasons: you want to build AI that gets people back in the real world, and you want to work with really smart people.

About the Role

As our Senior PM for Platform, you'll own the core systems that power everything Rec does. Payments, permissions, identity & auth, APIs & integrations, and reporting and analytics — these are the building blocks every team at Rec depends on.

You're the kind of person who gets genuinely excited about building systems that are rock solid, elegantly designed, and ready to scale. You think carefully about data models and API contracts.

What You'll Own
  • Own Rec's platform layer end-to-end — payments, permissions, communications tools, SSO & identity, APIs & integrations, reporting & analytics and more.

  • Set the standard for enterprise-grade quality. Define what "rock solid" means at Rec — and hold the bar across design, engineering, and QA.

  • Partner closely with enterprise customers to understand their infrastructure needs, and integration requirements.

  • Design APIs and platform primitives that other product teams — and eventually external developers — can build on confidently.

  • Identify where AI can augment the platform layer: smarter fraud detection, automated reconciliation, and beyond.

  • Translate complex technical tradeoffs into clear product decisions, without losing sight of the user experience on either end.

Who You Are
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (PM, founder, or equivalent).

  • Strong communicator and relationship-builder across all levels of an org.

  • Comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments — you find the signal in the noise.

  • A Simplifier. You distill thorny problems into elegant, high-impact solutions.

  • A proven executor. You've shipped a wide variety of features across multiple launches and know how to rally a team under tight deadlines.

  • Genuinely curious about AI. You're already using AI tools in your workflow.

  • Excited about the system-of-record opportunity.

Our Values
  • Be Relentless. Move fast. Own it. Ship real value early and often.

  • Win Together. Speak up, go beyond the boundaries of your role. That's how we win.

  • Take Pride. Treat this like it's yours — because it is.

Pay & Benefits
  • Compensation: $140,000–$200,000 base + meaningful equity (final offer will be based on your background, experience and skillset)

  • Benefits: Flexible PTO, top-tier health/dental/vision, and a 401(k) plan to support your future.

  • Work location: San Francisco — in-office most days at our FiDi SF office.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
