As Microsoft’s cloud business continues to grow, delivering hardware infrastructure and new capabilities at scale with high quality, efficiency, and reliability is increasingly important. The Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is responsible for defining and driving operational measures that improve hardware manufacturing quality, planning, delivery, scalability, and sustainability across Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. This team develops solutions that help ensure cloud hardware is deployed efficiently and performs reliably throughout its lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of cloud hardware products and supplier-manufactured components throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with component manufacturers, server suppliers, and internal engineering teams to monitor performance, resolve technical issues, and drive continuous quality improvements.
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to achieve quality objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational targets.
  • Drive improvements in manufacturing quality, yield performance, process control, issue resolution, and risk reduction across supplier operations and Microsoft data centers.
  • Manage product quality throughout post-launch lifecycle phases, ensuring sustained performance from growth through end-of-life.
  • Lead quality risk management activities by identifying, containing, mitigating, and resolving high-priority quality issues impacting global data center operations.
  • Develop and implement supplier quality management strategies that drive manufacturing excellence, product reliability, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to define and execute continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and scalability.
  • Support spare-part quality programs and continuity-of-supply strategies to maintain operational readiness across Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
  • Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR 12+ years relevant technical engineering experience.
 
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
 
Preferred:
  • Experience at DFM. Preferably in OEM/ODM/CM industry
  • Deep understanding of PCB, PCBA and server assembly process
  • 5+ years of experience in leading large-scale taskforce.
  • 10+ years of working experience in product quality discipline in Electronics Industry. 
  • Demonstrated experience as natural leader of cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Experience in product quality, reliability, or product engineering for PCB, PCBA and Electronic assembly & Servers.
  • Solid understanding of quality tools such as 8D, CLCA, SPC, Pareto charts, FMEA, GR&R, FAI, CPK, PPAP etc.
  • Familiar with measurements, ability to identify program NUDD, product CTQ & process CTP.
  • Familiar with metrics control, for example FPY, LRR and VLRR

Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
