About Grafton Sciences

We’re building AI systems with general physical ability — the capacity to experiment, engineer, or manufacture anything. We believe achieving this is a key step towards building superintelligence. With deep technical roots and real-world progress at scale (e.g., a $42M NIH project), we’re pushing the frontier of physical AI. Joining us means inventing from first principles, owning real systems end-to-end, and helping build a capability the world has never had before.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to design, build, and deploy advanced robotic systems for autonomous experimentation, assembly, and manipulation. You’ll work across kinematics, motion planning, perception integration, end-effector design, and force-control behaviors to create reliable, high-performance robotic capabilities. This role is for someone who thrives in full-stack robotics—deep technical ownership, rapid prototyping, and hands-on system integration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate motion planning, kinematics, control, and perception pipelines into robust robotic behaviors.
• Design, prototype, and refine end-effectors, tooling, and manipulation strategies for complex, real-world tasks.
• Implement safety, calibration, and system-level logic for reliable autonomous operation.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, automation, and AI/ML teams to bring robotic systems from concept to deployment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in motion planning, kinematics, robot control, or dexterous manipulation, supported by real systems work.
• Demonstrated ability to take robotic systems from prototype to reliable operation, including hardware–software integration.
• Experience working with industrial arms, mobile manipulators, force/torque sensors, or precision automation systems.
• Comfort working hands-on with hardware and owning complex robotics tasks in a fast-moving, interdisciplinary environment.

Above all, we look for candidates who can demonstrate world-class excellence.

Compensation

We offer competitive salary, meaningful equity, and benefits.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
