A Little About Us

Yahoo is a global media and tech powerhouse dedicated to connecting people to their interests. With nearly 900 million users worldwide, we provide a range of services from news and finance to shopping and gaming. Our mission at Yahoo News is to be a guide to the digital wilderness and help users achieve their goals, both big and small. Right now, we’re focusing on making sure Yahoo News remains an indispensable part of readers’ lives, while also working to connect with new audiences and position the brand for the future.

A Lot About You

We’re seeking a highly creative Social Video Producer to craft compelling vertical videos for our lifestyle, entertainment and news brands — content that’s not just informative but impossible to scroll past. The right person for this role has an interest in social-first storytelling and video production: You’re probably someone who spends too much time on TikTok and Instagram, analyzing viral videos shot-by-shot. You also have a basic knowledge of (and a comfort in covering) everything from the latest on Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni to fluctuations in egg prices and what’s happening in the White House. And if you love turning trending topics into quick, actionable videos that people actually find useful — keep reading!

As we grow our social presence across Yahoo Life, Entertainment and News, we need someone who can bring creator-style videos to life, from concept to completion. While this role has a heavy focus on video editing, you’ll also develop ideas for long-term series and franchises, as well as produce, shoot and publish daily videos across our platforms. There will also be plenty of opportunities to attend live events, so experience capturing real-time interviews and behind-the-scenes moments using just your phone is essential.

One day, you might be teaming up with a reporter or creator on a video series tied to the Oscars or another major tentpole event. Next, you could be capturing celebrity fashion at a red-carpet event or filming hot takes for a person-on-the-street video. On another day, you might be editing a press junket or crafting a snappy 30-second explainer on the trending story taking over your group chats.

This role requires strong partnerships across editorial teams, including reporters, producers, curation editors and newsletter writers. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with our network of premium publishers and community of Yahoo Creators. Stellar teamwork is what makes our content credible, engaging and, most importantly, fun!

Responsibilities

  • Video production: Own the video process from start to finish, including scripting, producing, shooting, editing and publishing social-first content. Sometimes, you’ll hop on camera; other times you’ll coach reporters or creators to do the same. You’ll also attend shoots — from in-office interviews to award shows and everything in between.

  • Ideation + development: Help brainstorm and shape video formats around lifestyle, news and entertainment coverage, from daily content to long-term franchises, with a focus on potential sponsorable series.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner closely with editors, producers, creators and talent to plan coverage around major tentpole events (i.e. Met Gala, summer blockbuster season). Experience producing creators and talent is a huge plus.

  • Monitoring trends: Use social listening tools to follow emerging trends and identify the right moments for Yahoo to jump into conversations.

  • Assessing performance: Monitor video performance for insights that can help improve future content.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience in video production and social programming

  • Proven ability shooting vertical, social-first video in the field. Experience covering entertainment events, such as red carpets and press junkets, is a big plus.

  • Extensive experience with visual editing tools, including Adobe Premiere, Canva and other relevant programs.

  • Solid understanding of analytics and social listening tools, such as Google Trends and Newswhip to help inform story pitches and assess video performance.

  • Experience collaborating with multiple editors, writers, producers and creators with a strong ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms and video best practices, including emerging trends and audience engagement strategies.

  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to craft video content that aligns with editorial standards and business objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires availability to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
