As a Senior Software Development Engineer, Android, you’ll help shape the design system that powers Zillow’s Android experience. You’ll build reusable components, frameworks, and tooling that improve quality, consistency, and developer velocity across mobile teams. This is a strong opportunity to influence how Android products are built at scale, including through thoughtful use of AI-enabled development tools, while raising the bar on engineering excellence across the product lifecycle.
You Will Get ToArchitect and build reusable Android components, patterns, and infrastructure using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks, including Jetpack Compose, to support consistent, high-quality product experiences across Zillow.
Evolve the Android design system to help developers build faster and more effectively, including through AI-assisted and agent-enabled tooling where it adds value.
Build and maintain tooling that helps teams generate design-system-compliant Android code and improve development workflows.
Uphold a high bar for code quality through technical design, code reviews, testing, and maintainable implementation practices.
Manage the component library release lifecycle, delivering reliable, versioned, backward-compatible updates to support production stability.
Partner with engineers, designers, and product teams to resolve integration challenges and improve adoption of the design system.
Create clear documentation and guidance that helps teams use shared Android components and tooling effectively.
Grow your technical leadership by partnering across functions, influencing platform direction, and helping scale the team’s impact across Zillow.
5+ years of Android engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android architecture patterns, and modern development tooling.
Experience building libraries, frameworks, or reusable component systems, with a strong interest in design systems and platform-level UI development rather than one-off feature work.
Strong understanding of accessibility, performance, animation, and Android UI best practices.
Demonstrated ability to independently design, implement, test, and deliver complex technical solutions, including translating ambiguous design intent into scalable engineering outcomes.
Experience collaborating closely with designers and cross-functional partners to create intuitive, high-quality user experiences.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and the judgment to apply them thoughtfully, while maintaining high standards for code quality, organization, and documentation.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic approach to working across teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
