WHAT IS BOX?

Box (NYSE:BOX) is the leader in Intelligent Content Management. Our platform enables organizations to fuel collaboration, manage the entire content lifecycle, secure critical content, and transform business workflows with enterprise AI. We help companies thrive in the new AI-first era of business. Founded in 2005, Box simplifies work for leading global organizations, including JLL, Morgan Stanley, and Nationwide. Box is headquartered in Redwood City, CA, with offices across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

By joining Box, you will have the unique opportunity to continue driving our platform forward. Content powers how we work. It’s the billions of files and information flowing across teams, departments, and key business processes every single day: contracts, invoices, employee records, financials, product specs, marketing assets, and more. Our mission is to bring intelligence to the world of content management and empower our customers to completely transform workflows across their organizations. With the combination of AI and enterprise content, the opportunity has never been greater to transform how the world works together and at Box you will be on the front lines of this massive shift.

WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

Box is on a mission to power how the world works together. Box AI is central to that mission—bringing intelligent assistance and agentic workflows to our customers across web, mobile, and desktop. The AI Experiences team works on the core user experiences that bring Box AI to life across Box products

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of cross-platform AI experiences with speed, quality, and strong technical judgment. You will own or co-own team-level initiatives across web & mobile that ship ship delightful Box AI user experiences to customers. Your primary focus will be on front-end architecture in React and React Native while partnering closely with backend engineers and cross-functional stakeholders. If you’re passionate about making AI the new user interface for Box content, this role is for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • You will own or co-own the design, implementation, and delivery of Box AI chat and agentic frontend experiences across all of Box's web and mobile applications, spending approximately 80% of your time on frontend development and 20% collaborating with backend engineering teams.
  • You will shape and inform requirements alongside Product Managers and UX Designers — not just implementing specs, but helping define them, making trade-offs quickly, and driving decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • You will ship weekly to production, contributing daily PRs and making incremental advances toward feature delivery within one-week sprint cycles.
  • You will help define cross-platform best practices for new feature development across web, iOS, and Android, establishing patterns and standards that scale across the team.
  • You will uphold accessibility, performance, and quality standards through thoughtful engineering, code reviews, and testing — spending at least an hour daily on PR reviews to raise the bar for your peers.
  • You will stay current with rapidly evolving AI model capabilities and translate them into meaningful customer value, responding quickly when new models require corresponding frontend experience changes.
  • You will partner with backend engineering teams to define interfaces, contracts, and incremental delivery milestones, ensuring full-stack quality even as your primary focus remains on the frontend.
  • You will participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

WHO YOU ARE

We are an AI-first company. This means you approach your work with a growth mindset and find ways to leverage AI to help make faster, smarter decisions that will 10X your impact at Box.

  • You have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on front-end development, and you bring deep expertise in React; React Native is a strong plus, but React alone is sufficient — having both is a significant advantage.
  • You bring full-stack understanding — you are comfortable with backend APIs, system design, and defining interfaces and contracts, enabling you to collaborate effectively with backend partner teams even as your primary focus is frontend.
  • You actively use AI coding tools — such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex — as a core part of your development workflow, including requirements gathering, writing tests, and feature delivery; this is a hard requirement, not a bonus.
  • You have a demonstrated track record of shipping significant changes across multiple components or systems with minimal guidance, in fast-paced environments where you shape requirements rather than wait for them.
  • You bring a collaborative mindset, a commitment to inclusive and accessible design, and a passion for mentoring peers and elevating engineering practices through high-quality code review.
  • You have experience with CI/CD pipelines, A/B testing, and feature flag-driven development; exposure to GCP and cross-platform mobile architecture is a plus.
