Global trade runs on data. Every shipment, every customs clearance, every delivery depends on the right information flowing through the right systems at the right time. At Flexport, data infrastructure is the foundation that enables billions of dollars in global commerce.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure who will take end-to-end ownership of the data systems that power Flexport's global trade platform. In this role, you'll own critical data pipelines and architecture that process millions of supply chain events daily, ensuring that our customers have real-time visibility into their shipments across the world.

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Data Infrastructure, you'll have deep technical ownership over the systems that ingest, process, store, and deliver data across Flexport. You'll architect solutions that handle the complexity of global trade, from tracking containers across oceans to coordinating multi-modal logistics, all while ensuring our data infrastructure scales reliably as we grow.

You will
  • Build strong relationships with producers and consumers of data across the organization.
  • Partner with other engineers on the infrastructure team to continuously improve existing systems and processes.
  • Design, build, and maintain data infrastructure systems such as distributed compute, data orchestration, distributed storage, streaming infrastructure while ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Create a culture of transparency, information sharing, and collaboration through the development of excellent documentation, mentoring of junior team members, and living Flexport’s values.
  • Participate in an on call rotation to respond to critical incidents.
You should have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 2+ years of data infrastructure engineering experience AND
  • 2+ years of experience in either
    • infrastructure engineering experience supporting product development and engineering teams in a fast-paced global environment OR
    • software development experience building tools in languages such as Java, Ruby, Go, or Python.
  • Experience with common data pipelines such as Kafka, or Kinesis.
  • Experience with common cloud data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS RDS/Redshift, or DataBricks.
  • Familiarity with developer tools including source code and artifacts management, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration automation with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, etc)
  • Experience with IaaS cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, containers, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Excellence in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to connect with empathy when delivering constructive feedback regarding infrastructure matters to engineers and product designers.
Where you'll work

Our Data Infrastructure team is based in our Bellevue, WA office and related teams are based in our San Francisco, CA office. This is a Remote First team, however you will live close enough to your office that attending occasional in-person meetings is not burdensome.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the posting's respective region. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training. 
The US base salary range for this position (this does not include bonus, equity and benefits):
$183,272$229,000 USD
