As a Senior Partner Engineer, you'll lead strategic technical integrations, optimize deployment processes, and collaborate with key partners to deliver outstanding user experiences. You'll act as the technical point of contact for our partners, driving innovation and solving complex challenges with scalable, forward-thinking solutions.
In this high-impact role, you will specifically be working with a core partner, based in Japan, developing a new global product offering. This role will allow you to showcase a wide range of skills far beyond just technical expertise. It is important that you speak Japanese and English fluently, you have a strong product mindset and can work independently across different teams and geographies. We are looking for someone with a strong engineering background but do not expect there to be a significant amount of hands on coding.
You’ll be pivotal in cross-functional work involving Product, Engineering, Editorial, Operations, Program Management, and Marketing.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Consolidate design and engineering patterns from SVOD where appropriate
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to optimise production workflows
- Ensure that technical quality is maintained in line with SVOD
- Work closely with internal feature teams for iOS, Android and Web to ensure feature parity and compatibility
- Communicate in native Japanese with our partner in Japan to ensure our partnership is efficient and productive
- Help drive globalisation and scaling from a technical perspective working closely with our partners, legal and product
- Identify, design and implement solutions outside of the core teams where appropriate
You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Partner Engineering and must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office.
About YouWe’re excited about candidates who bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Native Japanese language
- Cross-cultural experience and strong communication skills
- The ability to confidently engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Partner facing experience across technical, product and business domains
- Good understanding of product globalisation
- 8+ years of experience building and deploying complex systems in collaboration with external partners.
- Experience with modern web technologies: JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, HTML5
- Strong understanding of Client/Server architectures and scalable system design.
- Platform development experience with Web, iOS and Android
- Cloud experience with AWS and specifically Lambdas

We collaborate extensively with a diverse network of partners to integrate, test, deploy, and improve the Crunchyroll streaming application, content discovery APIs, and billing integration APIs over the entire device lifecycle using Crunchyroll tools and data.
