About the Role

Unify is redefining go-to-market with state-of-the-art AI. As an early Senior Backend Software Engineer. This role is focused on scaling our core platform to support our hyper growth. Moreover, you’ll partner directly with the founders to take brand-new product ideas from zero to one, set the technical vision, and establish engineering standards that will scale with the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Scale Unify: Ensure that Unify can scale to support our hyper growth and provide a stable platform for large scale customers such as Cursor, Perplexity and Decagon

  • Drive the technical roadmap: Collaborate with Product, Design, and GTM stakeholders to translate ambiguous business goals into a clear, phased engineering plan.

  • Set the bar for engineering excellence: Establish coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategy, reliability targets, and observability practices that future teams will inherit.

  • Evaluate & integrate new tech: Rapidly prototype with third-party APIs, databases, model-serving platforms, and infra vendors to accelerate customer value.

  • Mentor & lead: Provide technical leadership for (and — if you’re up for it — manage) engineers across domains—pairing, reviewing, and unblocking as you go.

Who you are

  • 5+ years of professional software-engineering experience

  • Deep, hands-on expertise scaling and operating PostgreSQL—designing partitioned/sharded schemas, tuning indexes and queries, automating backups and observability, and running resilient multi-TB clusters with replication and failover.

  • Proven track record of shipping high-impact, production-grade systems at scale. Passion for customers: you prototype quickly, iterate on feedback, and sweat the edge-cases that matter.

  • Collaborative, low-ego attitude with a history of mentoring engineers and leveling up the people around you.

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment, continuously grow, and master your craft

Compensation:

This a salaried position with a target range of 240,000 - $265,000 (depending on experience), equity package and comprehensive benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) options). This position is hybrid in either San Francisco, CA, or New York City, NY, offering the invaluable opportunity to work closely with a talented team in a dynamic, high-energy environment. Being in-person enables real-time collaboration, fosters creative problem-solving, and strengthens the connections that drive innovation and impact. You'll be at the center of our fast-paced operations, contributing to a culture that values engagement, growth, and teamwork.
