GRAIL is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Product Delivery Team. This team designs, builds, and supports software applications and backend services that power internal and external product delivery initiatives across the organization. The team works closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-quality software solutions that directly support GRAIL's mission of advancing early cancer detection.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of production-grade applications and services using modern software engineering practices. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to build features, improve system reliability, and support ongoing product delivery efforts in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
GRAIL is moving to Sunnyvale, California in Sept 2026. You may do some interviews at our current location in Menlo Park, CA. GRAIL offers a flexible work arrangement, with the ability to work from GRAIL's office or from home. Our current flexible work arrangement policy requires that a minimum of 60%, or 24 hours, of your total work week be on-site. Your specific schedule, determined in collaboration with your manager, will align with team and business needs and could exceed the 60% requirement for the site. At our new Sunnyvale campus, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the key days where we encourage on-site presence to engage in events and on-site activities.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software applications and backend services.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code primarily in Python and/or Go.
- Collaborate with product managers, quality assurance partners, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Support system reliability, monitoring, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Contribute to software architecture discussions, technical design, and implementation planning.
- Work closely with team members in an agile development environment.
- Evaluate and adopt technologies and tools that improve development efficiency and product delivery.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Demonstrate ownership, initiative, and a proactive approach to solving problems and delivering results.

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience building and supporting software applications in a production environment.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or Go.
- Working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including APIs, system design, testing, and debugging.
- Experience working with backend services, distributed systems, or cloud-based applications.
- Experience with version control systems and modern software development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively across functions.
- Self-motivation, initiative, and an eagerness to learn new technologies.
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with AWS cloud services.
- Exposure to AI tools, automation tools, or AI-assisted software development workflows.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience working in agile software development environments.
- Prior experience in healthcare, biotechnology, or another regulated environment.
