Own end-to-end software projects for Hinge Health’s visit and scheduling platform. Build booking, encounter, visit-history, and after-visit-summary experiences across mobile, web, and backend services. Scale integrations, support new specialties, define SLOs, manage safe launches, respond to incidents, protect healthcare data, write design documents, review code, and mentor engineers.

About the Role

Hinge Health uses software, including AI, to deliver care for joint and muscle health, and has expanded into pelvic health, migraine, and digestive health. We partner with employers and health plans to provide this care at scale, improving members' quality of life and reducing healthcare costs.

The Visits team owns scheduling for all of Hinge Health, along with the visit experience in our member app and in the tools our care team uses. That covers HingeSelect (our network of specialists, in-person providers, and surgeons) and visits in every Hinge Health program, from physical therapy to migraine and GI care.

Next, we want every visit at Hinge Health to feel like the best doctor's office you've been to, minus the clipboards and hold music. Members should be able to find the right visit, book it in a few taps, show up prepared, and afterward see what happened and what to do next, whether the visit was by video or in person. Providers should be able to act on a visit without leaving our tools, from referrals to labs to prescriptions. Each visit leaves a structured record that shapes the next one, from the follow-up booking to AI experiences that help members act on their care.

As a Senior Software Engineer on Visits, you'll own projects across that experience, from technical design through launch, while visit volume grows many times over. Your strength might be mobile, web, or the services behind them. There's central work here for each, and nobody is expected to be an expert in all three. It's 0-to-1 work at a startup's pace, backed by the resources and data of a market leader.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Lead projects from ambiguity to launch: Partner with product, design, and clinical teams to turn loosely defined goals into sequenced plans that several engineers can build against, then ship them at a high, steady pace.

  • Extend the scheduling platform: Grow the system every Hinge Health visit is booked through to support more specialties, more providers, and real-time booking with outside provider networks, while keeping every booking correct as volume climbs.

  • Close the loop after each visit: Build encounters, our record of what happened at each visit, along with the visit history and after-visit summaries that members see in the app, providers work from, and our AI experiences build on.

  • Bring new specialties onto one platform: Launch specialties like migraine and GI care on shared visit infrastructure, so adding the next one is mostly configuration rather than a rebuild.

  • Run what you ship: Define SLOs for the systems you own, roll out launches and migrations safely, lead incident response through to root-cause fixes, and protect member health data in every design and code review.

  • Raise the engineering bar: Write design docs for key decisions, give high-signal code reviews, and mentor earlier-career engineers. Use AI tools to multiply your own output and help teammates do the same.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • 3+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.

  • Professional experience with at least one of the languages or frameworks we use: TypeScript, Go, React Native, or React.

  • Experience leading a production feature or system from technical design through launch, working closely with product and design partners.

  • Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) in your day-to-day engineering work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building products 0-to-1 in a rapid-growth environment, using data and experiments to decide what to build next.

  • Experience shipping product features powered by LLMs or agentic workflows to production.

  • Experience building scheduling, booking, or marketplace systems at scale.

  • Experience with clinical data and healthcare integrations, such as FHIR or HL7 data, EHRs, claims, labs, or pharmacies.

  • Familiarity with our core stack: React Native, React, TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, GraphQL, Go, gRPC, Postgres, Temporal, Kafka, Docker, and AWS.

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance tech, or other high-compliance industries (HIPAA, SOC 2).

Beware of Phishing Attempts: We've noticed an increase in phishing where fraudsters impersonate employees and send fake job offers to steal sensitive information. We'll never ask for financial details during the hiring process and only use "@hingehealth.com" emails. If you receive a suspicious offer, stop communication and report it to the US FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center. To verify an email from our recruiting team, forward it to [email protected].

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
