Title and Summary
Senior Software Engineer
Overview
The Decision Management Platform (DMP) Authentication Decisioning team enables one of Mastercard's first lines of defence against fraud by processing authentication requests in real time and transforming them into actionable intelligence. The platform powers products including Identity Check, Smart Authentication, AAV Validation, Token Provisioning Insights, and other authentication decisioning capabilities.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and operating highly scalable, low-latency distributed systems that process authentication transactions at global scale. You will partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, Data Science, SRE, and other engineering teams to deliver innovative capabilities that improve authentication performance, fraud detection, customer experience, and operational resiliency.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing technical direction, mentoring others, and delivering software that operates at enterprise scale.
Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
Design, develop, test, and deploy highly available distributed services supporting Mastercard authentication products.
Own delivery of features from technical design through production rollout and operational support.
Participate in team prioritisation and technical planning discussions with Product and Engineering leadership.
Drive solution design and architecture discussions, balancing scalability, resiliency, maintainability, and performance requirements.
Develop APIs, real-time transaction processing components, decisioning services, and platform capabilities supporting authentication flows.
Contribute to modernisation initiatives including cloud adoption, observability, automation, service decoupling, and platform evolution.
Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD automation, and operational best practices.
Troubleshoot complex production issues across multi-tier architectures and distributed systems.
Partner with SRE teams to improve system reliability, monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and incident response.
Collaborate with Data Science and Product teams to implement fraud and authentication intelligence solutions.
Mentor junior engineers and help elevate the engineering capability of the team.
Champion Mastercard technology standards, secure coding practices, and software engineering best practices.
Represent the team during demos, design reviews, architecture discussions, and stakeholder engagements.

Technical Skills
You have:
Strong software engineering experience developing production-grade Java applications.
Experience building and operating distributed, high-throughput, low-latency systems.
Strong understanding of microservices architectures and API design.
Experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and infrastructure automation.
Strong understanding of software design patterns and object-oriented design principles.
Experience troubleshooting complex production issues using observability and monitoring tools.
Strong understanding of secure coding practices and application security principles.
Experience working with cloud-native technologies and containerised workloads.
Experience with large-scale data processing or real-time transaction platforms is highly desirable.
