Our Mission  SPAN is enabling electrification for all ⚡

We are a mission-driven company designing, building, and deploying products that electrify the built environment, reduce carbon emissions, and slow the effects of climate change.
  • Decarbonization is the process to reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, from entering our atmosphere.

  • Electrification is the process of replacing fossil fuel appliances that run on gas or oil with all-electric upgrades for a cleaner way to power our lives.

At SPAN, we believe in:
  • Enabling homes and vehicles powered by clean energy

  • Making electrification upgrades possible

  • Building more resilient homes with reliable backup

  • Designing a flexible and distributed electrical grid

The Role

SPAN is seeking a Senior Product Manager SPAN's mobile app for homeowners. In this role you will work at the intersection of product strategy, customer experience, SPAN hardware, energy data visualizations, device and cloud side data structures, and APIs. You will dive deep into the current (and future) product capabilities to define a vision and execute on a prioritized product roadmap. You will bring a rigor and scrappiness to the product organization, always working backwards from the customer and leveraging research, discovery, technical depth, and honed intuition.

Reporting to SPAN’s Head of Product, you'll ensure harmony across our product ecosystem by collaborating closely with the heads of Hardware products, Platform products, Installer experience, Design, Engineering, and Sales. You will champion user-centric design and product strategies, demonstrating how to prototype and iterate quickly while holding a high bar for quality, and delivering software-enabled features that bring cost savings, convenience, comfort, and carbon-reduction to homes equipped with a SPAN Panel.

Transforming the user's perception of electricity will be at the heart of your role. You'll turn an intricate, unseen concept into personalized insights, automations, and actions that resonate with homeowners' energy sources, uses, and costs, diving deep into data and hardware capabilities to inform the roadmap. You will partner closely with the firmware, cloud, and the mobile engineering teams to execute on product requirements while ensuring a tight partnership and the delivery of a delightful and defect free customer experience. By overseeing the ongoing development of our Homeowner App and shaping the way consumers interact with and think about energy, you will play a pivotal role in redefining the energy narrative in their homes.

About You

Responsibilities

  1. Immerse yourself and the team in the needs of SPAN customers, channeling their desires for savings, convenience and better living into our consumer digital product strategy.

  2. Take ownership of the strategy, roadmap, and execution, in continuous alignment with counterpart product teams and overall business goals.

  3. Dive deep into the SPAN hardware ecosystem and capabilities to build scalable software products and handle edge cases seamlessly

  4. Rapidly develop, iterate, and deliver products and features, maintaining a balance between production delivery, upcoming product/feature design, and new product/feature discovery.

  5. Champion a metrics-driven approach to prioritization and iteration, using engagement analytics to guide decision making.

  6. Maintain proficiency in 80% of our tech stack - native mobile and web apps, voice assistants, APIs, cloud back-end, data models, device firmware, control - and show eagerness to learn the remaining 20%.

  7. Foster an environment that supports complex, non-linear thinking to create unprecedented products and features, being unafraid to experiment with mental models beyond the energy industry.

We are looking for a product manager who
  • Thinks critically. Can navigate through ambiguity, defend their point of view, and adopt a holistic yet pragmatic approach to problem-solving.

  • Inquires expertly. Asks high-quality questions to uncover underlying needs not just stated wants, and thinks about future scenarios to inform present decisions.

  • Communicates effectively. Can articulate product ideas and value propositions in a way that resonates with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Works collaboratively. Acts as a bridge between product, engineering, and business teams, viewing project management as a critical component of product success.

  • Understands technically. Is not hesitant to become intimately familiar with our product and back-end platform, advocating for architectural approaches that serve our users best.

  • Serves gladly. Enjoys being the go-to person, resolving issues, answering queries, and serving others willingly.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hardware, software, and app product experience with customer facing energy products

  • 3+ years working in the residential energy domain (home solar, storage systems, EV charging)

  • Successful track record of shipping 0-to-1 consumer devices and digital products/features with high CSAT

  • Strong working knowledge of discovery techniques, customer research, design sprints, and rapid prototyping

  • Strong working knowledge of firmware, cloud based infrastructure, and API’s

  • Experience owning/driving business model development for 0 to 1 products including opportunity sizing, competitor analysis, feature prioritization, and GTM

  • Hands-on experience with product analytics tools, feature flagging services and in-app messaging systems

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience product managing a mobile app

  • Experience product managing a complex, multi-year and multi-product roadmap

  • Experience with mobile connected home/IoT products (connected devices, smart appliances, assistants)
