ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The Sourcing and Category Management team within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) department leads strategic procurement and outsourcing to deliver cost-effective, risk-conscious sourcing solutions that drive innovation, operational excellence, and support Exelixis’ business goals.
SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Sourcing Manager partners with Category Leads to support increasingly complex sourcing initiatives, collaborates cross-functionally to align procurement strategies with business needs, and drives supplier performance.
The SS&P department manages outsourcing, leveraging a category-based approach.
G&A, IT, and Commercial Categories
The Senior Sourcing Manager will support the G&A, IT, and Commercial categories. This role will be a key point of contact for Legal, HR, Finance and Facilities sourcing services, equipment and goods, and IT sourcing services, products, digital transformation initiatives, and ongoing technology landscape, and Commercial outsourcing services in market research and planning, media and marketing, market access, payer strategy, or HEOR.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage Business Stakeholders
    • Strengthens strategic partnerships and identifies sourcing or outsourcing opportunities.
    • Advises business stakeholders and supports governance models.
    • Leads stakeholder training on SS&P systems, policies, and processes.
    • Facilitates business stakeholder review meetings and influence adoption of sourcing strategies through consistent support and collaboration.
  • Manage Spend
    • Conduct sourcing or outsourcing initiatives for high-impact spend areas.
    • Leverage market intelligence for strategic sourcing or outsourcing decisions.
    • Drive cost savings and value creation through negotiations.
    • Manages end-to-end SOW development and contract execution for high-impact agreements.
    • Partner with Procurement Analytics team on spend management.
    • Collaborate with FP&A for forecasting, budgeting, and accruals.
    • Manage vendor performance and cost-to-deliverables alignment.
    • Implement supplier segmentation and performance frameworks.
  • Optimize Supplier Partnerships
    • Develops strategic supplier segmentation and performance programs.
    • Partnering with business stakeholders, optimizes vendor governance and ensures alignment with sourcing and category strategy.
    • Develops supplier collaboration plans and supports cross-functional engagement.
    • Addresses escalation issues and coach lower level team members on approaches for resolution.
  • Manage Supply Risk
    • Proactively identifies enterprise-level supply chain risks.
    • Develops comprehensive risk mitigation strategies, including supplier diversification and business continuity plans.
    • Provide support to cross-functional teams to reduce risk. Report on risk exposure to leadership.
    • Support compliance to corporate vendor ESG requirements.
    • As applicable per designated category, maintain audit inspection readiness.
  • Functional Responsibilities
    • Proactively review training to ensure current content.
    • Serve as advisor/mentor/coach to others in team
    • Execute to SS&P business processes and policies.
    • May lead SS&P or cross-functional initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Seen as an expert to support junior level employees in resolving challenging issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education

  • Master's degree and 7 years of related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 9 years of related experience; or
  • Associate degree and 11 years of experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and years of experience

Experience

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry(ies) required.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology R&D outsourcing, purchasing, supplier relationship management and/or procurement role(s) required.
  • Familiarity with Agiloft, Ariba, SAP, Tableau or equivalent applications desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:

  • Advance understanding of drug discovery and development.
  • Advance knowledge of applicable financial (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley Act, GAAP), category specific compliance regulations (e.g. GXP, ICH, GDPR), and legal terms and conditions (e.g., legal decisions vs. business decisions)
  • Advance knowledge of RFI/RFP methodologies and contracting standards (e.g., scopes of work, budgets, payment schedules, exhibits, quality agreements, data privacy addendums). Demonstrate success in contract negotiations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of financial and operational processes including, but not limited to budgeting, accruals, forecasting, financial analyses, financial reporting, capital expenditures, invoicing, payment terms, purchase requisitions/purchase orders, importation/exportation fees, taxes, currency exchange rates, and inflation.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office suite of applications
  • Advance analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges in a collaborative environment.
  • Advance understanding of procurement functions to actively contribute to process improvements.
  • Advanced demonstration of integrity, ownership, and a results-driven mindset.
  • Must have strong ability to focus on details and provide high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrate advance ability to communicate with clarity, professionalism, and influence.
  • Advanced ability to balance teamwork with independent initiative.
  • Advanced skills in customer service and prioritization in dynamic environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills to cultivate productive partnerships across stakeholders and vendors.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Ariba, Agiloft or similar contract lifecycle management system, Jira Service Management preferred.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Primarily working indoors in an office environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $157,500 - $223,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
