What we are looking for

We’re searching for a passionate and experienced Senior Staff Product Manager to lead the Vehicle Product Management team. Aurora has proven its technology with our successful commercial launch and is now underway in scaling to thousands of trucks on the road. This role will ensure we achieve this scale with a customer-centric approach. You will paint a detailed picture for our engineering teams, collaborating on our vision and roadmap and deriving technical and market-informed requirements for execution by Aurora’s design and engineering teams.
In this role you will

  • Lead a team of product managers by goal-setting and coordinating work across Aurora’s entire vehicle and hardware portfolio.

  • Map technical capabilities and improvements to product or customer value to inform next generation hardware development and prioritization

  • Coordinate with User Experience and Industrial Design team members to deliver physical user touchpoints across our products

  • Review potential operating domain criteria (distances/speeds, climate/environment, road types, obstacles) to identify impacted hardware requirements

  • Develop product-relevant vehicle platform integration requirements

  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders (both internally and externally) in order to help facilitate tradeoff decision making

  • Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of the products and projects

  • Communicate team’s strategy, roadmap, plans, and priorities to stakeholders and leadership

  • Meet with counterparts at vehicle OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and other key hardware partners to better understand their roadmaps, business models, and alignment with our vehicle product strategy

  • Manage hardware product lifecycles from early concept through prototype validation, OEM vehicle integration, serviceability, and field support

  • Work alongside regulatory, legal, and safety teams to ensure vehicle hardware and platform integrations comply with evolving autonomous vehicle regulations and functional safety standards

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years of product management experience or 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Experience in leading product development of complex systems, especially hardware and/or production vehicles

  • Experience with volume hardware manufacturing or automotive-grade hardware development

Desirable qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with people management

  • Experience with cross-functional software-hardware co-design (e.g., working with perception, motion planning, or compute teams)

For roles based in Mountain View, CA and San Francisco, CA, the salary range for this position is $197,000 - $316,000 per year.

For roles based in Pittsburgh, PA, the salary range for this position is $179,000 - $285,000 per year.

Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
