Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview
Motorola Solution's Access Control Division is redefining how people experience the spaces they move through, starting at the front door. Our mission is to make physical environments smarter, safer, and more seamless through modern access control and automation technology that people rely on every day. We’re building an industry-leading platform at meaningful scale, and we’re looking for engineers who want to shape the future of physical-meets-digital systems. This is a place where you’ll work on real-world problems that span distributed systems, hardware-adjacent software, security, and high-availability cloud services used by organizations around the world.
Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Definition: Define technical requirements for new products, ensuring electrical and firmware architectures are aligned to support cloud and mobile features.

  • Rapid Prototyping & R&D: Conduct "scrappy" firmware and hardware tests to validate architectural assumptions. You’ll build proof-of-concepts to answer the "Can we do this?" questions early in the design cycle.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with our electrical design team in Culver City and coordinate with Mechanical, Industrial Design, Cloud, and Mobile teams to ensure a cohesive system design.

  • Technical Partner Management: Collaborate with our CM and JDM partners in Asia to oversee design execution and ensure our architectural standards are met during development.

  • System Bring-up: Perform initial board bring-up and hardware/software interface validation on early prototypes.

  • Hardware Validation: Use bench tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) to debug system-level issues and optimize hardware for power and performance.

Qualifications:

  • The "Bridge" Skillset: A professional background that touches both Electrical Engineering and Firmware. You should be able to read a schematic as easily as you write C code.

  • Scrappy Prototyping: Experience writing functional, "proof-of-concept" code in C to test hardware features and communication protocols (I2C, SPI, BLE, etc.).

  • RTOS Familiarity: Hands-on experience or strong working knowledge of FreeRTOS or Zephyr is a major plus.

  • Systems Thinking: Ability to translate high-level product requirements into specific hardware and firmware constraints.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; you must be able to explain hardware constraints to software developers and vice versa.

  • International Collaboration: Willingness to travel to Asia 1–2 times per year and occasionally join evening syncs with overseas partners.

  • Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Target Base Salary Range: $120,000 - 160,000

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
