Joining Alation means being part of a winning team shaping the future of AI-powered data intelligence. We move fast, think big, and deliver results together.

Job Description:

Enterprises used to organize their data so people could find it. Now they are handing decisions to AI Agents. Instead of asking ‘where is the data?’, they are asking ‘does the agent understand what this data means, and can we trust what it does next?’

The technical story behind our platform is one of our sharpest advantages. Alation is looking for a Senior Technical Product Marketing Manager to own that story, across our core platform and the AI Agent capabilities built on AIOS and the Context Layer, and turn it into demos, competitive intelligence, and content that win technical buyers.

You’ll build self-serve technical demos that work at both the business and architecture level, keep our competitive intelligence sharp and defensible, and partner with our Forward Deployed Engineers to turn field learnings into content the rest of the company can use.

This is a strong fit for someone who loves staying hands-on with the product and can translate real technical nuance into material that lands with both engineers and executives.

This is a hybrid role. You’ll join us in our Redwood City office Tuesdays and Thursdays each week to collaborate, connect, and help be a part of our incredible culture.

What You'll Do
Competitive Intelligence & Positioning
  • Own Alation's competitive source of truth. Track and analyze competitor products  and keep it up-to-date. Ensure the right content is deployed in the right channels.
  • Join discovery calls, POCs, and FDE engagements every week. Notice patterns, learn customer stories. Understand where real value lies.
  • Build AI-assisted workflows that let you turn field signals into assets faster, and keep a human in the loop where accuracy and judgment matter most.
  • Get hands-on with competitor products to build technically defensible comparisons, and validate every competitive claim before it reaches the field.
  • Partner with Product Marketing leadership to sharpen positioning and messaging with technical detail from your competitive work.
  • Support briefings to sales and Product Marketing on competitive moves.

Technical Demos & Analyst Relations
  • Build self-serve demo environments and scripts that sales, SEs, and partners can run without you.
  • Build demos that work at two levels: a business story for executives and buyers, and a technical drill-down for architects and engineers.
  • Create documentation and training materials so field teams can run demos confidently.
  • Rebuild demos around real customer scenarios as you learn them. Retire the ones that don’t work. Ensure videos are captured and available in all learning channels.
  • Partner with Analyst Relations to develop demos and RFI responses that map Alation capabilities to analyst terminology, evaluation criteria, and use cases, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with product availability.

Partnering with Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs)
  • Partner with FDEs on the technical side of demo content and competitive material.
  • Help capture technical learnings from field engagements and incorporate them into product marketing materials.

Technical Content and Enablement
  • Write reference architectures, tutorials, blog posts, whitepapers, webinars, and demo videos that earn engineers’ trust and give executives something worth forwarding.
  • Represent Alation as technical voice at industry events, customer forums, webinars, and analyst briefings.
  • Turn core material into sales enablement: battle cards, technical playbooks, and training that help sellers show what makes us different.

What You'll Bring
  • 8–12 years of experience in technical product marketing, solutions engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience building and running technical demos for a sales, industry analyst or field audience.
  • Exposure to competitive intelligence or competitive analysis for enterprise software.
  • Comfort partnering with engineering, solutions engineering, or forward-deployed technical teams.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into material for broader audiences.
  • Familiarity with AI agent architectures, data governance, or data intelligence platforms is a plus.
  • Bonus: You understand the difference between metadata management and active metadata management, and between technical lineage and business lineage.
