Mountain View, CA | AI Fund | Full-time

AI Fund is a venture studio founded by Dr. Andrew Ng in 2017. We build AI companies from the ground up with corporate partners, investors, and elite founders, backed by a fund from top-tier global corporations and VC firms. Our purpose is to build AI companies that move humanity forward.

Our Engineer in Residence (EIR) program puts a hands-on GenAI builder on an idea for 12 weeks to test it with real users. The strongest go on to found the company, and that is the only way AI Fund deploys capital: every company we fund starts with an EIR hire.

The person in this role will own full-cycle recruiting for EIRs and for AI Fund's own team, from first conversation to signed offer. We're rethinking how recruiting works now that AI exists. We're after 5x improvements, not 5% gains, and the recruiter in this seat helps build that.

What you'll do

  • Run full-cycle EIR searches across all of our active ideas.
  • Close. Walk candidates through the residency, the compensation, and the path to founding a company, and get the right people to yes.
  • Own hiring for AI Fund's internal team, starting with engineers on our Build team and expanding to other roles the studio needs.
  • Recruit builders on evidence of hands-on work: shipped products, real technical contributions, and applied GenAI experience.
  • Use AI across your own workflow, including sourcing, research, outreach, and screening, and help build the custom tools that make it faster.
  • Keep the process moving and ensure that candidates go from first contact through hiring events, a hands-on build exercise, the panel, and a decision without losing days.
  • Report pipeline health weekly with real numbers, and use them to fix whatever is slowing things down.

What you need

  • 6 or more years of full-cycle recruiting, including at least 3 hiring senior engineers or research-caliber technical talent, ideally at startups, venture studios, or venture-backed companies.
  • A record of closing hard-to-hire technical candidates.
  • Fluency in how modern AI teams work. You can tell a hands-on builder from someone who manages one, and you can hold a credible screen with either.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI tools in your recruiting work, and a real appetite to keep pushing the boundaries.
  • You use AI heavily but never send slop. Anything you write should take longer to write than to read.
  • Basic technical ability (or a strong desire to learn) paired with deep curiosity and the ability to digest new concepts quickly. Everyone at AI Fund, recruiters included, builds software with AI help.
  • Ability to communicate in a way that candidates and founders trust. You can explain an unusual role and an unusual offer clearly.
  • The ability to run several searches on your own while keeping stakeholders informed.

Bonus points

  • Experience recruiting founders, founding engineers, or candidates for an entrepreneurial program.
  • Experience at a venture studio, incubator, or early-stage founder program.
  • An agency or executive search background in AI, robotics, or deep tech.

Who this is for

  • You want work that matters. Every company AI Fund funds starts with an EIR, and you're the one finding them.
  • You're bored by filling reqs and want to help decide who builds the next great AI company.
  • You want exceptional candidates, unusual roles, and a job where your judgment changes the outcome.
  • You know the volume is high and the bar is higher. Most weeks include two or more hiring events and several active EIR searches.

Why AI Fund

  • You'll work with Andrew Ng's team and see ideas become funded, launched companies in about 10 weeks.
  • You'll see where AI is actually going through our network of companies, and you'll get the resources to change how recruiting works.

What success looks like

Six months in, EIR searches close faster and with less friction, the internal team has a steady pipeline of strong builders, and you've built at least one AI workflow the rest of the team now uses. Candidates always know where they stand, and the people you hire stay.

At AI Fund, we are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
